the two kids first, one gets out then the other rows the boat back.
the mom or dad gets in and rows to the other side the kid gets back in and rows the boat back. the other kidgets in and rows it to the side they want to get to one gets out and the otherrows it back the other parent gets in and rows to the other side the kid gets in and rows the boat back and the other kid gets in and they row to the other side.

Easy.

Yep.

Because cigars cannot be entirely smoked, a hobo who collects cigar butts can make a cigar to smoke out of every 5 butts that he finds. Today, he has collected 25 cigar butts. How many cigars will he be able to smoke?

He will be able to smoke 6. 5 original ones from the butts he has found and then he can make one more from those butts, making 6 cigars.

Yes.

Since these are too easy, here is another math one:
A man walks into a bar, orders a drink, and starts chatting with the bartender. After a while, he learns that the bartender has three children. "How old are your children?" he asks. "Well," replies the bartender, "the product of their ages is 72." The man thinks for a moment and then says, "that's not enough information." "All right," continues the bartender, "if you go outside and look at the building number posted over the door to the bar, you'll see the sum of the ages." The man steps outside, and after a few moments he reenters and declares, "Still not enough!" The bartender smiles and says, "My youngest just loves strawberry ice cream." How old are the children?

8,3,3
12,3,2

We don't know what the number of the building is, but we don't need to know. Look at all of the ways 3 numbers can equal 72, and then you will see why the customer still couldn't determine the correct answer after looking at the building number.

You stumped me again.
I can only find two clues, the product is 72 and the youngest loves ice cream

i think either 6,6,2=14 or 8,3,3=14

[Edited on 1/10/2005 10:14:31 AM]

Here are all of the ages that multiply to be 72:
72 1 1
36 2 1
24 3 1
18 4 1
18 2 2
12 6 1
12 3 2
9 4 2
9 8 1
8 3 3
6 6 2
6 4 3

Now add them and tell me why the customer still couldn't determine the ages after looking at the building number.

Yep (even though technically there is a youngest when talking about twins, but we are not taking that into consideration).

OK, I'm all tapped out for today. If anyone else can think of new ones, post away.

make this a true statement.

102 + 1 = 101

you can move only one number once.(that means you can't swap numbers)

._____Metal
/..}-/-{..\
I.X....X.I..... Jets: Check

Change the 102 to 100.
100+1=101

1.) Move the +1 to the right side of the equation.
2.) Make the + a -.
3.) If your a astro-physicist, add a new dimension that allows 102+1=101.

A while ago I saw a riddle thread, so I decided to make a logic question thread. First of all, do any of you have any logic questions if so post them.

I guess I'll start it out with an easy one:
You have to make a choice between two directions at sea. One direction will lead you to an island of all truth tellers and one will lead to an island of all liars. You meet a wandering sailor who came from one of the islands, but you do not know which one. By only using one question determine which way to the truthful island.

Hint: THIS question doesn't have to be yes/no but the next questions might be yes/no questions

Okay, well since I never saw this answered correctly, I'm going to.

Ask the sailor which island he came from. If he's from the truth island, he'll point to the truth island.

If he's from the liar island, he will also point to the truth island, because he's lying.

Either way, you know which one Truth is. Then you finish this fight.

... I was lost when you said the word, "the."

Just some advice: Use a bit more punctuation. It will help both you and whoever reads your posts.
