I can join and create multiplayer games over the internet, and the internet lobby lists about 500 server names. But while my friends in Cleveland and Pittsburgh can find and join each others' games, they can't find mine (though other people join mine) and I can't find theirs. (Cleve is also using halo pc and pitt is on mac). Their internet lobbies list different numbers of servers. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or how to connect with them??

We've tried a direct ip connection also, with no success.

I'm using halo pc 1.06 on xp pro sp2, software and hardware firewalls disabled or disconnected. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious...
Thanks!

If you're getting different server lists:
a) your friends need to update to 1.06.
b) no one should be using an illegal version of Halo with a no-cd patch. IT KNOWS.
c) set your filters to display ANY server, no matter what ping. It's possible your pings are too high.
d) make sure your firewall/router isn't blocking ports 2302 and 2303. If you need to know how to do this on XP-SP2's firewall, let me know.

Heyyo,

Sadly for Halo for mac, they're stuck in v1.05. So if you want to play with your mac buddy, either get him onna pc with v1.06, or downgrade to like v1.05 or v1.04 (I reccomend v1.04 cause v1.05 has a problem).

Many thanks to you both! I suspect it's either a version issue or a firewall problem--shields up website showed the necessary ports closed after I "disabled" the windows firewall so maybe that's it. I'll post after I follow up on your suggestions...

It seems to have been the firewall settings. I manually created exceptions for a variety of ports following the suggestions posted here as well as the directions at http://gamespyarcade.com/software/support/firewalls.shtml?new tab#ports . I'm not sure what did it, but it now works. Thanks again guys!
