Disturbed.
Korn (their version of "Another brick in the wall" originally done by Pink Floyd kicks but).
Drowning Pool.
AFI
All the bands above have such great albums I don't need to tell the names of the songs.
Oh, the oddball to start controversey--t.A.T.u.

Really mixed.

Mudvayne, Slipknot, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Atreyu, Shadows Fall, God Forbid, Hatebreed, Lacuna Coil, Stone Sour, Walls of Jericho, Bleeding Through, AFI, From Autumn to Ashes, Unearth, Funeral for a Friend, White Stripes =P, As I Lay Dying, Marilyn Manson, Static-X, Stabbing Westward, Thursday, Nora.

And Mudvayne.

All of that is so new-age. I prefer the old-style.

I never really understood the new stuff. Then again, everyone has a different opinion on music styles. A lot of the old stuff is also about the Heavy Metal Gods and such, so I see where you're going on that. There are of course exceptions, but I prefer the crazy instrumental solos and War-hungry lyrics.

Yeah... Therion will alwyas be special to me, it was the first band to get me into metal. It was Asgard, that song was the one that made me stop and listen. It was amazing with the choirs, opera, symphony and metal all at once.

Hmm, lol, yeah I don't think you would like power metal, impurity. It is quite epic, fast paced, with good solos. Like for instance here is a Rhapsody song:

Face me evil bastards, smell the hate of angels
Glory, pride and bloodshed
Cowards and beholders, rapers of my wisdom
Mix of dust and bones
Go back to your abyss, Algalord will not fall
But your heads will soon roll
Test the blade of heroes, fury of the thunder
Hit my golden shield

So we'll fight against the wind
for the glory of the kings
to defeat the evil enemies
And we'll ride with our lord
for the power and the throne
in the name of holy thunderforce

Arwald and Aresius with the nordic warrior
On their way to Hargor
Chaos and oblivion, turmoil and disorder
Will have now their name
The last fallen heroes will defeat your forces
Thousand spirits calling
On the furthest mountain I will see your fire
Quenched by holy frost

So we'll fight against the wind
for the glory of the kings
to defeat the evil enemies
And we'll ride with our lord
for the power and the throne
in the name of holy thunderforce

That kinda stuff is awesome. Download the song "Phantom Opera Ghost" by Iced Earth. It's a duet style song. I think it's pretty cool.

Old-metal tends to be all about sotry-telling. New stuff tends to be about social issues. What do you guys and gals think?

I know what you're saying.

I listened to a band called Dream Theater, and to be honest, they weren't my thing. It was too progressive. Then I say one of their concerts, and wow, I was blown away. You should read some of their lyrics. While some of them are very story-driven, there are quite a few that target these social views.

If you like Thrash-type metal, download this song. You might find something you like. Oddly, Annihilator is only good in concert. This song is called Alison Hell. I also put it up in the Death metal topic thread.i

Yeah progressive metal is more of a acquired taste. I had always liked classical and myths so progressive metal was even early on a favourite of mine in metal. Oh and did you know Sveny that the new Rhapsody album actually has Christopher Lee (the guy who played Saruman in LOTR) as their narrator.
