Cant say if they were just bad or not since I wasnt there. But I can say good amount of the time we are much better than our console counterparts.(Ahem in more ways than one)

But I can also say if you were to ask this again in the Halo 3 forums you would get totaly differenet results. Try it, Paste this into that forum.

If you do, reply here that you did it, I would like front row seats ;)

Let's not be absolutist here, but PC games tend to be more challenging, or at least they are not dumbed down.

They may have just been bad, but hours of Counter-Strike is going to quicken your reflexes and teach you how to aim.

Long live the Last Refuge!

I was a born a consle gamer but quickly adapted to the PC gamer world. My frist game was Star wars empire at war (by that i mean a game not none of that learning crap). My frist FPS was halo 2 vista and I quickly got good at that game becuase i used the controller. So my frist changlle was F.E.A.R. The frist PC FPS i played without the cntroller and I learned how to get good quick or else i would get owned, but i got the hang of it and now im a great PC player. So yes i think PC players have more skills.

"You all laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same."

It takes more time and practice to hone your reflexes with a controller. The cordination of the two joysticks is very hard for most first-timers, whilst a mouse is very easy and natural to use. I say that because most everything I do when I play Xbox has basically become instinct, embedded into my mind are literally hundreds of small motions that I use in equally abundant situations...

So, I'd say that going from computer to console is actually easier than vica versa, and that console gamers do have more skill.

PS: I mainly play Xbox 360 because my PC sucks, but I do play Halo: PC.

you could just take a look at the competitive gaming market and get a good idea of how all of that works. MLG's pretty small time when it comes to some of the PC pro organizations. When? you compare the market size it makes it even more apparent.
To illustrate: How many soccer moms/little girls/little boys do you see playing a wii or a 360? how many do you see playing a PC? The proportion of noobs to pros in INFINITELY higher in the Console market. I work at a LAN center so this is apparent to me on a day to day basis. If you're talking about pro to pro skill levels, then the PC's still gonna win. Just watch a pro CS match... try saddling a couple MLG button combo whores with 360 controllers in a competition against any of those teams and I'd be willing to bet my genitalia on a PC victory.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Considering my lack of success with Halo 2, I'd have to say the skill sets are about equal.

Isn't this changing now? Don't games like Gears of War and Bioshock for the 360 force you to aim properly?

see it's the other way around for me, i sucked with a mouse and keyboard when I started. The second somone put a PS2 controller in my hand I already knew what to do. It was complete instinct, by the second day i had it. I played kingdom hearts non stop once i got my hands on my PS2 for xmas of 01.

I don't think it's the actual gamers skill, it's more of the genera of game. Most PC shooters these days aren't run and gun, they require you to be caucus, time your movements and be exact upon execution. It's not necessarily skill, but more timing. When I go up against console players most tend to rush in directly, maybe turn in a few directions, but in the end they still end up in the open as easy targets, no matter how bad your aim is. On the PC I notice people use their environments much more. Sure I think PC players are a bit more...honed, but it's really the different styles of combat going head to head, and caution always wins. Not sure if that would be defined as skill.

Another quick question, do any other PC gamers find the character movements and general pace of H3 slow? Just one thing i noticed playing it for the first time...

Yes, Halo 3 is slow-paced. That's one reason I like it. I'm old and slow.

yeah when i play quake wars and i have my sniper rifle im always going to well hidden places and where i could get a good shot. Like snipers in the real world, but in halo 2 vista (basicaly the people play it, play on the consles) it's all about run, shoot, repeat.

yep, theirs time for slow like a sniper geting a kill, and their time for fast like you being swarmed by enemies and their trying to take or blow up the objective.

America's Army > Halo 3, and that's not just because it's free.

heh anyone knows how console players play CoD 4? I dont, but rushing is what i do on certain maps, believe me on good days i get and i dominate the rear, so fun^^

Anyways Caution WILL save your life a few times, but more often than not you gotta have quick reflexes to let caution win, im pretty sure alot of console players have good reflexes, but id say its the controller thats restricting them, i mean Cmon not being able to spin around in a single motion really dulls the experience.

  • 01.22.2008 1:44 PM PDT

Long live the Last Refuge!

I can beat COD4 on hardened for the 360, halo 3 on heroic, and Halo PC on normal (since i just made it to the silent thing on heroic).

Maybe that's our only major advantage! So the auto-aim in Halo 2 Vista is now justified. Beep beep!

I'm a patriot and a loyalist, not only when it comes to country terms, but in topics too. I'm a PC gamer, so it's quite likely I'll be biased towards the favor of PC gamers...sigh, I'll try not to be...xD

I personally think PC games takes more skill, because after all, it's all about quick reflexes and better aiming. Console games, tends to be in slow pace...and although I like slow paced games (Halo, CoD games [single player portions], etc.), console games seems a bit too...user friendly IMO.

But then again, besides the console gamers getting the infamous auto-aim in many FPS's, we have the advantage in aiming capabilities. The human brain finds it less straining when you "aim" a cursor with an entire palm (mouse), since you literally feel like you have total control of the reticle. It's much harder to aim with a mere THUMB (controllers' analog sticks), or if you're playing on a laptop's touchpad, a freakin' index fingerpoint...

...Seriously, is it physically possible to play games on a laptop WITHOUT a mouse hooked up to it? It must be eye/brain soring...=/ I can just imagine having to play Starcraft with a touchpad...*shudders*
