Well, I had a good 1v2 match (me against two other guys) two nights ago, and of course, I recorded all of it, with the new space I got by uninstalling Half-Life2...which as you know, in order to have installed it, I needed to deleted 4 precious gigs of my previously recorded clips, that I recorded and saved up for months...I hate you Valve. I start editing the recently recorded clips into a little montage...but I'm stuck. I'm using Sony Vegas 7.0, and there's a little problem. Let me try and explain it thoroughly as best as I can; I'm too lazy to print a screenshot, post it up on photobucket, then posting the link here. (Btw, that's a major flaw in these forums; instead of allowing you to post a picture right then and there, we have to go through the uploading on a pichosting site process...)

Let's say there's a whole 1 min strip of clip I put onto the Sony Vegas' main timeline. I split the clip in two, then I split it again. So there are now 3 sections of the clip, 1 long strip, 1 short strip in between, and another long strip in the end. I want to add the blur effect ONLY to the short strip, but fate has it, that Sony saw it fit to frustrate its customers by blurring the entire 3 sections, I guess since they count as one whole "clip" or "video". I see no menus or right-click selections on how to allow only the middle strip to be blurred. So my question is (if you understand my situation), how can I achieve this without blurring the other two long strips?

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure I knew how to do this a long time ago, I remember using those effects in my previous 1v1 montages...I even went back and checked to see how I did it in the first place, but thanks to having to install Counter-strike Source, and later, Half-Life2 a month earlier, I had to delete those clips...so all that 1v1 recordings with Lt Morris and tehford...GONE. I wouldn't have cared as much if cs:s and HL2 lived up to my freakin' expectations. Two worst games ever.

...so yeah, now that I have completely forgotten how to single out a certain strip, can anyone refresh my memory? Thanks in advance.

You're kidding me...[/after patiently waiting a full 24 hour]

I'm just going to be honest and admit I'm bumping this back up.

Seriously, I wish I was Iggwilv. Not because he's the probably the most respected member here, but because any new thread he puts up, is immediately replied to over 20 times in the next minute, regardless of what the thread is even about (I'm not insulting or "hatin' " on Iggy here just so you know...).

I read this originally but have no solution. I use Premiere Pro and get my share of weird errors, but I don't have any idea about your problem. You could probably try some workarounds though, like deleting the clips you don't want to apply the effect to, then bring them back.

Maw

I haven't used Vegas, but I would say just take the middle clip, export it to some random file, import it into a new project, blur it, export it again, and import it back with the others. I know its kinda out of the way, but it might work.

I just realized that when you use the cutting tool in premiere to cut strips, all of the cut parts are highlighted by default, so make sure only the stuff you want is highlighted.

What's funny is I ran a google search to see if what you said could be a problem and came up with this thread.

Petosh got it right, if you don't select the clip Vegas will happily apply the effect to the entire project. One trick the pros use is to make two video tracks and when you split the clip move the second clip down to the second level. the third clip goes up on the 1st track so on... This also makes it easier to create fade and transition effects.

lol at my posts being responded to immediatly. I haven't made a post here in over a month.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

You and I are also Heroic Members. :/

Hm... not sure if there is a specific "highlighting" option in Vegas, and I don't even remember using such techniques to apply an effect to a cut clip...but thanks anyways, and I'll experiment more...

And to Iggwilv, you're right about moving the seperate clips into different segments, so you can edit each of them easier...but to be honesst I've tried that. I'm frustated not because the effect is affecting the entire video, but mostly because Vegas is contradicting even the most simplest of all logics (even after I seperated the cut clips by miles apart AND in different sections, it STILL thinks I want to apply the effect to everything! argh!) xD

Oh yeah! Who's your heroic member?

They either base it off of join date or post count but I'm leaning toward join date because they don't want to encourage spamming. All three of us have been here forever, but lpjuunin came at least a year after i did.

Pft, I signed up just before Halo 1 was even released. Only problem was, my account got deleted for inactivity. Twice. :(

Anyway, here's the answer you're looking for!

Right click the clip you want to add the effect to and select 'Create Subclip', then add the effect to it.

Should work, have fun!

It's join date without getting warnings/bans. As well as other secret factors. There are also legendary and mythic members.
