This level is the most important of all of them from the standpoint of how it changes the goals of the game in midstream, but it is not either the creepiest, coolest or most interesting level of the game. I will explain:
The level is the most important because it takes the game from Earth/Humans vs. Covenant war, to SURVIVAL OF THE GALAXY! The discovery of the flood, and what the rings are for changes the whole thrust of the game, therefore it is crucial to the storyline, the most crucial aspect in my modest opinion.
As for creepyness, the build up to finding the Flood (with the bloodspatters and barricades but NO BODIES!) is well done. The music is well done. The best part of the level is the helpless feeling when you think you have escaped by finding the elevator, only to have it go down! My heart actually sank the first time I played Halo and that happened. I was totally dismayed by it! The second best part is the maze that you have to finish to actually get the hell out of the level. It is great the first few times you play, before you can do the escape in your sleep.
Coolness? Yes, it is cool, but not the coolest. Two Betrayals is the coolest, and the first half of Keyes (trying to get back onto the covie ship) is very cool. Nightime battles just rock in my book!
As for most interesting, that to me is a toss-up. As lame as it sounds, the first time through the game, the level Halo to me was the most interesting because the game was just so much beyond anything I had played up to that point. The grand scale of the levels and the terrain. The sounds, sights and detail were amazing. I still love playing that level because it is just such a visual treat. Personally, my favorite level is Two Betrayals, because even though it is a replay of an earlier level, it is different enough, challenging enough and there are so many different ways to approach the main battles that it never has gotten boring for me.
As to overall creepiness, or "need new pants" creepyness and outright scare you out of your socks, DOOM III is unreal. I am 45, and even after playing that game for the last 4 years, it STILL scares the you know what out of me at times, and I know whats coming! It is a dark, mean, evil game, that is a blast to play. It is very different than Halo, it is very similar to Halo, and it is my second fave game after Halo CE.
Welp, thats it folks!
