Well, Halo is basicallyl Marathon IV is a lot of respects so let us look at Marathon and the scene of powerups as a look for Bungie inspiration . . .
Well, Marathon had full health, x2 sheilds, x3 shield, and invisibility. Sounds familar ;). Actually, it did have one extra powerup and that was an invincebility (you turned all static looking). I think when you picked that up only energy weapons could hurt you. That'd be a very interesting powerup for Halo. Maybe then ppl would be more likely to carry alien weapons, providing for some more strategic planning. As far as attribute power-ups, I doubt it ;) Grenade hopping is the closest you'll get to jumping higher. If any marathoners are out there (i haven't played MP in years), they may be able to correct me, but i think i recall something that changed all the colors, so enemies showed up like green, and everything else was black. Sorta like a quasi infra red or enemy identification suite.
I think a very interesting thiing from marathon was that many of the health and shield powerups were in the form of terminals. You go up to a thing in the wall, whenever you want, and recharge yourself up! This of course could lead to some interesting situations . . . . My favorite was the one x3 terminal in "Flight of the Toolater" that was in the end of a long hallway. A hallway with a raising floor that would smash the person recharging into the ceiling and kill them if a deviouis player happened to pull a certain switch. O:-) hmmmmmmm.
