Hello.

Some of you guys have really cool themes!

I don't think I would do make any good themes, so I will just review the community's themes.

Good luck!

Well, there goes my chance. I never could figure out how to work CSS. Of course, I already sent mine, so maybe hope still lives. I suppose I could always submit an avatar. Did we ever get a confirmation on which email to send those to?

You don't have to edit the CSS file if your style doesn't require it, just send the CSS file of the pre-existing theme that you copied from.

You mean the grid background? Since the group CSS is loaded after the main site, you can override certain things. To change the grid background, but this at the top of your group CSS file:

body { background: #XXXXXX; margin:0; font: bold 12px/15px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #bbb; }
body.preload { background: #XXXXXX url(struct_images/your_background.jpg) repeat-x top left; margin:0; font: bold 12px/15px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #bbb; visibility: hidden; }
body.loaded { background: #XXXXXX url(struct_images/your_background.jpg) repeat-x top left; margin:0; font: bold 12px/15px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #bbb; visibility: visible; }

Replace #XXXXXX with the bottom color theme of your background, as it will show if the background image is unable to load AND it will show at the bottom of the page (see how the blue grid runs into a solid blue color).

Couldn't you just have an image of the gradient and have it repeat when the news/announcements are long enough?

In my opinion, those flags, while looking good, are out of the question. Many have monitors that are simply too narrow, or their resolution are too small, to view the cells on the sides.

OP

Then mail me a zipped archive with all your files in the right place and the css file edited the way you like...No more jpg previews please.

Well it looks like i'm out since i have no clue how to use the theme builder.
Even though all i wanted to submit are the 3 pics necessary (no other changes. eg. font, color). So hopefully my "single" theme that i submited before theme builder came out made it in. I'm going to preview my "multi" theme here even though i'm not going to be submiting it due to the "Themes new update" just to hear some opinions and because it involved quite a bit of work.

While thinking of what to include in this "multi" theme i've decided that first i should actually play some multi games in MM. I got really lucky with the Capture the Flag as i wanted the oposing teams and flags to be in the same pic. Thanks to one of my C.F. members i got that shot. My second shot was forged, as it was to illustrate Griftball (since no one plays Griftball on Valhalla) and it represents the cunning involved in that game as well as the fact that you need a rock solid formation / team to win that game. The right sidebar is what every "multi" game has (except slayer), the flag, bomb, territory drop point. Lastly the forum got a pic of rocket race, again a game i actually played in MM. I'm not in that pic but what's in it is 2 teams approaching the score point from far left and right with shooting rockets.
(sorry no preview for the forum). So take a look...

MMtheme - my multi theme
Good luck to you all (those that know how to use the Theme Builder)

I'm OUT

You understand that all you have to do is replace the header, forum and side jpgs in the theme builder directory right? Then zip up the folder and send it to me.

Umm it's a ziped folder already O_O
(don't know how to zip a ziped already folder)
Also i don't know how to replace the immages in a winrar ziped folder.
I'll contact the guy that made the theme builder i guess, see if he can shed some light
(there is no point in you or him trying to explain it to me here)

edit:
was a PSD with 3 immages in it really that much harder to work with ?
(not being sarcastic, just asking)

I have Vista, and it automatically unzips the folder (and I can zip it again when I want to).

Well, it's been a while since I even seen WinRAR (probably five years), so I really can't give instructions, but I would suggest unzipping the folder completely into some easily accessible location, making your changes there, and then zipping it back up and sending it to Stosh.

  • 03.23.2008 12:53 PM PDT

If you have windows, it should be pretty easy for you to just unzip the sip file, replace the images you want to change (located in the theme/images and theme/struct_images directories in the folder), preview in your web browser (double click on the html file you want). Once you get everything you want to look good then you just zip the file back up with your new files in it and send it away. For stosh then, once he gets the zip all he has to do is unzip it and copy the theme directory to the right place on the webserver and he's done.

if you have a mac or linux there is also a tar file available for download in theThe Themebuilder post. You just uncompress, edit, recompress and PM me and I can convert it to a zip for you. Also, if you want help with CSS feel free to PM me, and probably others in this thread and we can help you create the css you need to do what you want.

How to Use the ThemeBuilder:
1. Decompress / unzip
2. replace images in theme/images and theme/struct_images directories with those specific for your theme. Note: don't change the file name or type or you will have to edit the css file to make it work.
3. (optional) modify the css file to make your theme better*
4. preview in browser, return to step 2 if necessary
5. compress / zip and email to stosh

*if you don't know how to edit CSS I and others do and at least I, and probably others, are willing to help you write CSS for your theme.

One final note - If you need a program to zip / unzip files I recommend 7-Zip (it's free and easy to use)

I found this guide on how to use the built in compression system in windows. Just skip down to the section about compressed folders.

You can use it to help you create a new theme. You then send it to the e-mail provided on the first page and if stosh approves it, your theme will be usable by everyone's groups soon.

  • 03.23.2008 1:32 PM PDT

Not customize your own group. The themes, if the powers that be approve of them, become useable by all groups on b.net, not just your own. So yes, it gives you more options for customizing your group but all others could (theoretically) use your theme if they so desire.

No crying allowed. All you have to do is replace three or four files in the struct_images folder. It's not hard.
