So . . . blunt. I love it — but not as much as I love the idea of the new themes.

I'm totally confused about how to use this theme builder. So far I've just been replacing stuff in the static folder (which I know isn't supposed to be changed(. I can't figure out how to change stuff (like the grid background or transparency or the logo without changing the images in the static folder.

Basically, HOW DO I DO THIS??

I'm a novice when it comes to html. I know a little bit, but not enough to changing stuff around.

  • 04.07.2008 7:50 PM PDT

You do this by changing the CSS.

To Change the bungie logo at the top, simply add to your theme's main.css .top_logo_bungie {
background-image: url(images/YourFileNameHere.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
}

To change the background, add the following CSS: div.bgRepeat { background: url(images/newBackground.gif); }

To change the navigation bar background: div.nav {
background: url('images/nav.jpg') repeat-x; background-position: bottom right;

}

Note: new images go in the theme/images folder, you can change the filetype, just change the extension in the CSS.

If you want an example of some of this examine the CSS in my terminal remake preview. It has some of the static images covered. Terminal Remake

Be careful what you do to the logo; I think stosh said to leave that alone.

Three actually: Dark Oni, Hunter, Temple. Hopefully my Ghosts of Onyx will make the next build along with some of my other Marathon Themes. As for the Theme Master title, one can only hope...

Temple? That one is awesome! Thank you. Temple is the theme I use in my group.

Yeah my theme didn't get in either. Though, mine sucked. Your Flood theme will probably be implamented eventually.

I'm pretty surprised. I thought more of the multiplayer themes would get it.

EDIT: At least Rocket Race did.

I'm surprised some of these themes made it in. A few of them didn't even have sidebars. Oh well. Time to get creative, I suppose. I'm going to start working on some type of ice theme. Maybe something centered around one of the snowy maps or Lockout.

How do you use the theme builder? I look at the theme folder. The folders inside it have images in them. So how do you create a theme?

  • 04.08.2008 10:46 PM PDT

The simplest method of creating a theme is to simply change the images. Make new images to take their place and then save over the files (keeping the same file type)

For more customization you can change the CSS code, located at theme/main.css. There are some CSS examples in this thread and you can always post / PM questions on how to do things in CSS to this forum / me respectively.

Also if you see a theme already on the site with features you would like to imitate, you can grab the theme's CSS code and then make the missing images. (placing them in the right location in the folder hierarchy).

You preview the theme by opening groupHome.htm and groupForum.htm in your web browser of preference.

Note: Static means do not change. The folder is not to be modified. End of story. Also, do not reference it in CSS. It does not like to be touched (Period)

This makes things much, much simpler. I just have to put new images into the folders? Works for me.

I have a question. I'm working on a dark theme. As such, I would like to use Oni Dark as my starting template. How can I get the CSS code for this theme into my theme builder? Any help would be appreciated.

In practice it is harder to get the css and images then it should be. You first need to find the theme's css file URL (on a line that begins with <link href="/App_Themes/, after you find it, you need to goto that url in your web browser. Once there, right click and save it as main.css in the themeBuilder.

You then need to open the css file, and find out where all the images are located. At this point in time you must either create your images in the same folder structure as specified in the CSS. If you want to use any of the images from the original theme you need to travel to them in your web browser, download them, and save them into the proper directories.

In short, sounds simpler than it is.

If you need to do something with css and don't know how it is probably easier just ask here and we can help.
