What exactly is the difference? I played Riddick and it looked great, except I didnt really like how the environments looked "bumpy" from afar but when you got up close it was obviously just 2 dimensional. Is that what Halo 2 is gonna be like?

no, bumb mapping is when you make a texture have 3d-ish light properties so it looks like something is smoother or more detailed than the polygons actually are

yeah . . . umm remember that Riddick is a game based on a movie . . . they generally suck, graphics and all . . . . but umm lol . . . that bumpy look in the game is because people dont try to make videogames good anymore. They just make them as fast as they can so they can sell them to make money. Thats what seperates bungie from everyone else. They actually wanna make QUALITY games. Bump-mapping is making a 2D texture look 3D using color and lighting effects BTW

I have played Riddick and I have to say it is good. Probably the best Ive seen on xbox besides halo. It is weird how a movie liscence is so good.

uh no it has to do with halo 2...the new bump mapping graphics

and by the way, i wanted to know what the difference was between bump mapping and normal mapping, you said bump mapping (in halo 2) is making a 2d thing look 3d with lights and -blam!-...but that is exactly what it is in riddick, in "normal mapping"

so far no one has any good explanation

Well cypher go look thru the weekly update archive it's very probable the answer you seek is somewhere in there. I seem to remember Frankie giving us abbreviated definitions of the two.

"Riddick", game and movie, are really cool! go check out my posts on this topic on the Flood.
