Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

He *facepalm*-ed because there has been a lot of threads recently about how things need to be taken away due to elitism. It's frustrating to implement a new system that you think users will love, only for several topics to be made about how it could promote elitism, especially when there are no cases cited. At least, that's why I did that.

Proof there is a God.
My RT account page.
My Grifball user page.
So if you really want to get to know me, you're welcome to add me anywhere.

Yeah, don't take it so personal, dude.

This is a recurring theme here in the Septagon, you're certainly not the first to come up with it.

He "facepalm"-ed the idea of elitism.

Edit- Now let this thread die its rightful death.

I didn't expect such massive responses.

Also, as for me getting facepalmed by Achronos, that's more insulting and uncalled for than finding out I've been fired from work because I'm not religious. I mean, I did do a search, I didn't find any satisfactory results (lack of filtering much), so I made my post, and I got facepalmed? I thought this was a community of some sort of democracy, but clearly I was mistaken. I didn't ask for Recon Armor, I didn't say Bungie failed at Halo 3, and I was still shut off.

Bleh.
A 'facepalm' is when someone puts their face in the palms of their hands. Usually in frustration, embarrassment or disgust. I believe frustration was the case.

Furthermore he was not 'facepalming' you as a person, he was 'facepalming' the whole elitist argument that everyone seems to get so worked up about these days.

Final note: I believe your interpretation of 'facepalm' is that of a slap, it is not, like I said above it is an expression. Observe.

I know what a facepalm is, I didn't just unlock the internet achievement yesterday. But he quoted my post with the facepalm. I signed onto Messenger today to get 5 offline messages claiming Achronos had "facepalmed me".

Edit: I agree with the above poster. Forget I even mentioned anything =/.

Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

"for a "best" moral to exist, there must exist the "best" moral base. If the base of morality varies from location to location, culture to culture...then there can't be an absolute moral..

it seems that no matter what the folks at bungie do, people will complain. recently that added titles under user names, and some of those titles are harder to get than others, so now the whining and moaning begins.

i do not know why anyone would be bothered at all by the fact that some users have different titles.

you are making claims about what people in the bnet forums tend to think and do, and i am pointing out that you have little or no evidence to support those claims. your most recent post does this again. you claim that "people tend to feel obligated when members with special titles make a thread," but you have no idea what thoughts or motivations most posters have when they see that a thread happens to have been started by a person with a title other than 'member'. you may feel obligated to post, but i cannot imagine why you or anyone else would feel that way, and that you feel obligated to post surely does not entail that any other bnet members do, let alone the majority of them.

really? do you do this? even if you do, what reason do you have to think that anyone else does, let alone that this is the norm?

i highly doubt that the majority of posters hunt for people with various titles and then make posts. this would involve many extra steps. i suspect that people see either a topic title that interests them, an op or last poster that sparks their interest, or forum activity and then decide to open the thread. they can do all of those things from the forum page.

i would be shocked if anyone had evidence to support your claim about what motivates people to post.

plus, since it is clear to many of us what these titles usually indicate (length of membership and few penalties), i cannot imagine why anyone would care more about posts by posters with 'heroic' or 'legendary' under their name.

I never stated that people "hunt" for members with special titles, I just was saying people tend to feel obligated when members with special titles make a thread. Take a look around the forums sometime, you'll see what I mean. And please, if you are going to critque my post, please use read the whole thing, because it doesn't look like you did from what you typed.

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

Obviously you are not most members sesquipadelian. Look around to see anyone with a special title and look at their thread. Generally they have more replies than a regular member. There is the evidence, go to any forum, you will see.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

This topic gets better each time its posted.

I cant wait to see how awesome next weeks elitism thread will be!!!

Maybe he's a person that goes to threads that sound interesting. Like most people.

If you are referring to the fact that threads started by "higher" members tend to get more replies, it tends to be the fact that most new members post a couple stupid topics that get flamed away, then gradually learn how to make interesting and well-thought topics. Many Heroic, Legendary, and Mythic members are regulars to that forum in which they post and are well known, so a thread by them has a good chance of being more interesting than John Q. Newguy's post.

I flat out read WTF ppl have to say. Thats all that matters anyway.

The ONLY time I just look at titles is when I see a 185 reply to spam thread. Just always curious of the ranks in those threads. Amazes me how heroic members reply to spam.....

This is probably why people are responding so much. Perhaps people misunderstood what I mean in my original post. I was confused, as to why Post Counts were hidden, yet Member Titles were added. I remember a post from a very long time ago stating it was to prevent Elitism. THAT is it. I was confused at that. I like Member Titles, I was just confused, and wanted a reason. I guess people played Ninja and attacked me thinking I was criticizing the new system.

Far out.

If there's one thing I've learned from being a member of B.net, it's that Bungie is NOT one of those sites that rewards its members for post counts. Post count would encourage spam, and that IS the main reason it's hidden.

Quality over quantity.

Кланяються мені!

I admit i posted to spam and got my first warning, i didn't lose my member status, but i don't think i'm better than anybody just because it says Heroic Member. Its just a title, in the military there are many ranks, but just because your at E5 and your leader is O2 is in charge doesnt mean their better than you, they are only more experienced

I'm fairly new to the threads, although i've played Halo from the beginning when it was on Xbox. I'm just learning how great of a community this place is. I can see how not showing post counts is a good thing. I feel like I can get help more easily just by looking at the rank of someone than playing trial and error with a high poster that may just be a spammer. I thank Bungie for this system. It just makes it easier to get help and at the same time, strive to become a better member of Bungie.Net.

There are two groups of people in the world - those that hope, and those that wish. The first group hopes that nothing bad will happen. The second group wishes that they are there when it does. Which one are you?

It's inevitable. Every few months they recycle and all the big players come in with something to contribute. Just let it play itself out and then you can ignore the word until April rolls around.
