~No, I do not play Halo PC, never have played Halo PC, so quit asking me.

Actually..unless this software doesn't support it..there's technically a way to force all new users who signed up to view certain topics and clicking an "I agree" button before they can leave the thread.

Sure there's some who will just click it and not read it..but really there's a way.

Good idea, I like. Problem is, like Jennestia said, they will probably just skip reading it.

I understand that they would just browse through it and click the Agree button, but with them having agreed the MODS could seriously crack down on rule breakers who claim ignorance.

You know man, you are a very smart cookie.
Although, when websites try to implement this, it is usually this is what happens.

1)The site asks you to read all the rules(scroll down to the bottom of them)
2)people do without reading the rules.
3)They go post stupid stuff because they didn't.
I'm guessing thats what would happen.

But amazing idea friend.

But they could do this, make it a certain time limit, like have 10 people read it, and average out the time, and have it so the agree button comes up after like, say, 5 minutes or something.

No, because it wouldn't make a difference anyways.

Stupid people will be stupid no matter how long they stare at walls of text.

No, it would just be a pointless addition that people would ignore.

But even if these new users didn't read the rules there could be a warning on the Stickies that allows the MODS to Perm. Ban users who break the rules. Even if they just scrolled through they still couldn't claim ignorance.

EDIT: Yes I understand the Mods do ban users for explicit content and whatnots but this could be an easy way to rid them of all the Trash on these forums.

Poll: Can Bungie MAKE New B.NET users read the Stickies before Posting on...  [closed]
Please God YES!:  62%
(33 Votes)
No:  26%
(14 Votes)
I have nothing constructive to say...!>#>@#$:  11%
(6 Votes)
Total Votes: 53

Well I am one of the many annoyed forum goers who is a little fed up.

I understand that many new members frequent the forums and ask the SAME questions and post LIKE threads daily.

It gets a bit old.

With that being said is it Possible to make every new B.NET account user Read (loosely associated, more like Click the I AGREE button) the Stickies before posting or creating threads? I think this would help ease the flow of SPAM coming in to the forums and no one could claim ignorance because they would have ALL read the C.O.C. and T.O.U. This could remove the constant clog on the forums as well.

Yes I do realize that some of the stickies don't deal with rules, I think that Bungie should only "force" users on the relevant Codes of Conduct and Terms of Use.
And Yes I know that the majority of the people would just scroll down without reading.... but if enough people DO read and GET the picture then the change would have helped a good bit. Like I said, these people would be held to a Higher Standard than they already are and I hate to say it, but if enough people get Perm. Blacklists the community would catch on.

Any other ideas please let them out here...
Any Mods who care to comment please do...

You can't make anyone read anything but we are working to make stickies a bit more visible.

I understand that you can't MAKE the people READ the stickies but having the members CHECK OFF that they Agree would make these people held more accountable than they already are. I'm glad that ya'll are working on making them more visible, I was just on the Halo 3 forum and noticed the spam factor at its highest.

EDIT: If I could rephrase the Poll it would be changed to a more fitting question... like New Users Must Sign Off on Stickies before Posting (heck, even ALL users have to hit AGREE)

Oh God, that would be amazing. Even if people just clicked through like the large majority of us do with EULA's, it would hopefully prevent spam, and the inevitable wave of complaints following posts that violate TOS and CoC.

  • 01.27.2008 6:07 PM PDT

After they click "Agree", Have them take a test on what they just pretended to read.

  • 01.27.2008 6:10 PM PDT

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

I guarantee most of them wouldn't read it. Even if they did, they would still post whatever they wanted to say. Forcing them to click a button won't make a difference. People are already held accountable for reading stickies, and proper discipline occurs when it's obvious someone didn't.

  • 01.27.2008 6:40 PM PDT

As someone said above; willfully ignorant people will see it as a wall of text that they need to avoid reading. The simply ignorant people will read it.
( espeically if you start by telling them they could be banned for being ignorant)

I get more ass than a toilet seat.

Maybe like a pop-up when you first join that stays uip for like 5 min. But even then people don't look at the stickies and such.

Hmmm. . .

Might be a tad distracting, but it would get the point across. :P

No, it is impossible for Bungie to force their users to read the stickies or anything else for that matter. You could make them view it before proceeding or giving them permissions, but they could simply just choose not to read it. It would be irrelevant in my opinion to implement anything like that, because it would only give people the incentive to skip the thread.

At least having those rules and guidelines at the top of each forum gives the user the option to read them and if they choose not to, well... they must face any consequences that comes with their decision. From my understanding, the Bungie Online Team is currently in the process of making these stickies more visible and helpful for new users on the site.

I don't think a lot of people understand the concept... even if the users just click the "AGREE" button that holds them more responsible.
They can claim ignorance but after having them signed off on the Forums then if there is spam created they could and would be held more accountable.
This way the forums aren't so convoluted constantly with repeat spam threads.

I understand that the people would probably just scroll down and click the button.
but
With them having agreed the Mod's Justicey Hammer of Rockdom could lay down the Law much swifter than constantly handing out Temp Blacklists.

YES genius! New users get a flashy header saying READ ME! Now I want to read the stickies they are calling out to me!

  • 01.28.2008 2:14 AM PDT

Well, first off, all users are accountable to follow the rules anyway so they can be temp'ed right away if the mods really wanted to. As was already stated, most would just click through without reading. The problem is that a lot of the Sticky's are things I don't care about or don't pertain to me. Uploading vids to my computer - nope don't care. Custom Game Finder - nope don't care. Pimps at Sea - no offense but no, not interested. Should we try and force peeps to read things they may not care about anyway. Plus, have you seen how many Sticky's are in each forum? Are we going to make them click through them all?
