To be one of the only serious responses, flying a pelican is a little different than your typical ship. Understand that when your landing that there is a constant downward force, like a helicopter. If your nose is down, your going to move forward slowly, your nose is facing up then your going to hover back. Also, when landing on an incline, make sure that the incline isn't too steep because the pelican will slide down it, giving you a risk of running someone over who tries to get in by accident. So learn to hover over inclines. And if you want to get in to a tight spot hold the ^ and < or > (referring to the arrow keys) simultaneously to fly at half speed.
Other than that the pelican just takes a bit of practice. Most people suck at flying it <.<
