Well, if we have enough good ideas and posts, this may as well be an "unofficial sticky" because it will stay on the front page. And now that it has so many replies, more people will be attracted to this topic, and it will stay even longer.

All of the responses to this particular topic so far have been relativly interesting, but consider this.

We all saw the RTD of the Halo 2 last year and I'm sure we all were stunned at the sight of the Covenant Shadow. What I propose is a Human aircraft with combination of the Banshee characteristics and the Shadow characteristics. The speed and agility of the Banshee, but the firepower and armor of the Shadow.

This aircraft could resemble the "Orca Fighter" from Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun. In the game, the Orca seemed to be the combination of new jet and fighter technology combined with traditional attack helicopter roles. The attack helicopter itself is an neccessity on the modern battle field and though the technology will change the need for such a vehicle will not disappear. Based on the recounts of Covenant tactics in this war, it is clear that there is a need for this vehicle. The Scorpion-AT rockets are perfect for taking out Covenant armor and protecting infintry while the twin 50mm cannons are an excellent counter measure for the massive infintry charges the Covenant often employ.

In the FoR, there was an encounter with a Sky Hawk Jump Jet that has been mentioned many times. The Sky Hawk could be this aircraft. It would astound me if a vehicle of this nature is not employed in Halo 2.

Thank you. Now in reponse to you Human AA gun battery, I have a simple solution. In FoR, on page 168 (for reference), there is a detailed layout of a Human firebase. For air defense, it is mentioned that there are a number of sensor and radar controlled surface-to-air missile batteries. These could be made into simple turrets that Human soldiers could use for the air defense problem.

I am sorry to say that I have to disagree with the idea of a gauss rifle being mounted on an aircraft, especially an aircraft of this nature. First, the recoil this type of weapon generates would cause the aircraft to crash or, in worse case scenario, shatter from the vibrations. Second, the power needed to charge the weopon would be enormous and drain every bit of power the aircraft had leaving it nothing to maneuver with. Third, in order to fire, the aircraft would have to be almost perfectly aligned with the target leaving no maneuvering capabilities and vunerable to enemy ground fire and other aircraft.

That's exactly why there should be a stationary gauss/MAC turret, instead of having the gauss rifle on a vehicle. I do like the sound of those missle batteries as an AA solution aswell. Although in the book those missle batteries didn't seem to help as the covenant quickly and easily destroyed those bases.

True, the base did get annhilated, but you must also remember that there were a number of rather large troop transports in the area with heavy plasma batteries. It would take a full scale MAC round to take out one of those ships. In addition to that, the Covenant most likely subjected the base to a long-range artillery bombardment before the first ground troops and air support even entered the fray.

You are probably right. In the first book the marines seem to always underestimate the Covenants strategies and capabilites. Maybe if they had some of my mini MAC turrets setup they would have been able to take out those transports and destroy any long range plasma artillery before they had caused too much damage. LOL

Your Second Paragraph... I must comment... Wouldnt that Over power the Human Air Attack Vehicle? Bungie has been know for balancing out the game.. Not overpowering the game so it looks funny...

Clearly there has to be some kind of fast response aircraft. I disagree with the belief of it being a vertical take off craft, because then it would be unrealistic for M C to get it off the ground before it is annihalated. I like the idea of a sleek, compact craft that has a liftoff much like the pelicans. weapons wise, I think a miniature MAC would be much more effective than rockets or missiles. If the fighter was armed with a mini MAC and a .50 mm chain gun, it would be awesome. The MAC's extreme power would be counter balanced by it's slow movement speed. Also, MACs have always proven themselves to be beyond description in regard to their effectiveness in taking out covenant air and spacecraft. The only problem I can forsee is that a MAC gun may not work in atmosphere, in which case it should be replaced by say, the already posted interchangeable missiles. In regard to an anti aircraft gun, rockets, the warthog's m41 LAAG, and even close range shotgun fire have all proven effective against banshees.

Qazx that suggestion is not a deviation from storyline, but of gameplay....well sort of.

Now then for what I actually have to say.

AA stands for Ant-Aircraft, not anti-armor
LAAG stands for Light Anti-Aircraft Gun
Hornet and Wasp are currently non-exsistent models in the Halo universe, so let's stick with the SkyHawk Jumpjet described in The Fall of Reach. It would make a great single man hover assault craft. Heck Bungie could use this design for it, just thin it down a little.
The Longsword is too big and is more meant to deliver high end explosives onto a larger target. They are also meant for fighter-fighter combat. And taking on Banshees would be pointless considering the main threat to the Longsword is a Seraph.
Also we currently (in the real world) have single piloted jets for those that thought we do not.

I believe I was the only one that mentioned Anti-Armor, and I know AA doesn't mean it...
