So we are going to get a LAN party together and I'm wondering if I will need multiple copies of Halo PC or will one copy load up on all machines? I'm a total newb at this LAN thing so any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Morality issue? Whether or not to help ones elderly grandfather commit suicide to escape the pain of his terminal cancer is a morality issue. Asking if Halo PC allows spawn copies on a small local network the way some multiplayer games used to is a question seeking an actual answer, not a vague reply that tries to sound philosophical.

Qwinn - I don't know the answer.

Yes, you do need multiple copies to play Halo PC across a LAN network. Each computer would need a separate disc and a separate CD key. Of course, there are work-arounds...

You could use one cd, by placing the cd in a comp, start halo, take CD out, place in another comp, start halo, etc.

I think for lan cd key doesn't matter, so you could use the same CD key and same CD for all comps. Whether it's legal or not I can't say though. There certainly is nothing else stopping you though.

To play multiple copies of Halo PC on a LAN together you need the CD keys to be different from one another.

Not on LAN

But on Internet, yes

Wrong. You need different keys for LAN, too.

Hello! Star Wars FTW. Also, join the MAW group. Please?

I can second (or third) this statement, all three computers in my house that are capable of running halo pc each have a separate copy installed and I play lan games all the time, and I have run into issues with installing with the same cd key on lan. They have to be different. Doesn't have to be a different disc, just each has to be installed using a seperate cd key. And extra cd keys aren't terribly hard to obtain...

I think you need multipul copies. Either it's something with my computers, or you do.

I just bought a new computer, and was board one day, and tried to get 2 computers on a LAN to join a game of Halo PC, but it kept saying "CD Key Invalid" or something like that... has anyone else gotten that?

Yeah I was wrong you do need separate cd keys to play eachother on LAN. However you can have two cd keys, with one playing LAN and one playing Internet, which is why I was confused.

Put the disk in the PC, boot up the game, then take it out and put it in another PC. Repeat.

I think there is a lot of unintention misinformation in this thread.

Of course you can install Halo PC on as many different machines as you want to. However the OP is asking if they will they be able to run at the same time in the same LAN game. The answer is no. While i have not tested it I can be pretty sure M$ did not leave CD key verification out of LAN play.

It doesn't seem right for anyone to be charging for a game that's no longer updated. Halo should be available as a free download by now.

You can't connect 2 or more halo 1 games with same cd key.
