bungie did that so that the human weapons are something that we can relate to; not so that the human weapons are every bit as alien as the covie ones.

then it shouldn't be so far in the future
do you think we would actually still be using bullets

yes

think about it. a bullet puts a person down faster than anything else. why would we want to use anything else?

Well if it were, say 50 years in the future, do you think that the human race could have
1:discover how to jump into subspace
2:colonize dozens of planets, reaching hundreds of light years away?

No, but in 500 years, sure.

yah, you gotta admit, building spaceships 3 km long is pretty far away (unless of course if nano-carbon technology works out)

sorry to put this one down... but what would nano-carbon tech have to do with huge ships?

Well i guess we could make something that moves faster than a bullet and is more acurate and deadly. But it would be hard to imagine something like that... Quick, to the drawing board!

nanos i think reorganise molecules into other things so it could turn graphite into diamond simply by changing its structure. And bits of metal into totally complex city-sized space ships.

they will be using nuclear powered guns in the near future that have unimaginable powers

Most likely we focused on space fighting instead of ground fighting.

All theoretical. Plus, bits of metal can't make entire an spaceship, the materials still have to come from somewhere.

And you could use those things to build a web of high stregnth alloy around you're bones and joints (just like the spartans), but you wouldent have that nasty effect of deformed limbs to worry about.

500 years in the future, the UNSC is using the power of entire planets to build their ships. Such as reach. All the metal mined there would be brought to shipyards on the ground, which will assemble blocks of the ship, tug ships would then bring the blocks into space and peice them together(just like real shipbuilding).

I'll be on my own side.

its good that we dont use laser and stuff like that. then it would turn into another run of the mill stupid shooter with laser guns and aliens. Halo is good how it is.dont start complaining about stupid things like that

My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.
My Stats

I think the weapons in Halo are just right for the scif-fi feel their going for. think what weapons were we using 500 years ago? Just about the era gunpowder. I think all of human technology in 2552 is kinda crude (relatively). The Shaw-fujikawa drives that make FTL travel possible are primitive compared to the Covies, and so are our weapons. I think all the human weapons are improved and deadlier versions of what we got today just not completely different. We haven't made that leap yet. Other areas like bio-engineering and space travel/exploration however are definitely well beyond what we have today (man's first flight was only a 100 years ago and brain surgery even less than that and just think about computers and how fast they progress)

And I hope weapons never evolve that far, I still love my bullets and modern AR's like the M4, the M4 kicks major ass.

im no expert i learnt about it from red dwarf lol. Basically Im guessing that you could program the nanos to take materials (if you suppy enough) and rearrange them into what you want like a huge ship (sorta like DNA with the programming and stuff)

I think the "reorganise" bit straightened that out. it can only change stuff thats THERE. I meant like millions of pieces of metals....

first of all, ever heard of a space elevator?? Serious consideration has been going on over at NASA (even in the 60's) to make an elevator to the legrange point between earth and move. It would be built with nano-carbon technolohy (what it is is small peices of carbon that are formed in a special way that makes them 100 times stronger than steal, essentially harder than diamond, the hardest substance). At first, NASA thought they could find enough diamond somewhere to make the elevator (the core of Jupitor) if it was made of diamond. Jeez, most of this info can be found in sci-fi books as well (ever read 2001: A space oddesy? Hello Dave) Anywho, nano-technology has come so far that a elevator may be possible in the near future.
