I've already started on implementing much of the small adjustments many of you suggested to this layout, and they'll be made live fairly quickly.

Thank you. Fantastic to see a developer responding to feedback as soon as it comes in, and more importantly, tells us about it.

Achronos I have made very specific complaints. The post you just quoted was my way of asking very nicely for things to go back the way they were or explain why not. I understand change is necessary, what I don't understand is why you feel that your status as Bungie.net Overlord gives you the right to dismiss our obvious discomfort with the new format. Yes it may seem like a baseless complaint, but seriously the new format is simply awful and many people are complaining. There is no way to say I hate the way this looks without saying I hate the way this looks.

um, i dont think this is a "pile of poo" but i do think it is a bad layout. unlike some that didnt, i have reason(s) why.

1. in the old layout, it was easy to see the posters names. For example, if Crazystrawberry (me) created a forum, it was easy to see. It was in its own column, and the same size as the title. now it is smaller, and underneath the title.

2. The last poster is no longer existent. instead, all that is listed is the time and date.

3. If the important topics (forums) are posted by bungie admins, why not just keep them at the top of the page, but on there own list. this doesnt change the actual forum size, but merely i think the position is important.

We’re looking back laughing because they called us crazy, but we took that chance on that feeling, living for the moment, we were spinning in. Maybe we were a lot of things, but we weren't crazy.

Some things (like altering the master template for the forum pages) can't be changed slowly. We prefer to make incremental changes (they're WAY easier to test), but sometimes, that just can't be done.

Of course, you say "change things in small increments" and that's what we do. Indeed, I've already started on implementing much of the small adjustments many of you suggested to this layout, and they'll be made live fairly quickly.

I don't want to sound demanding or rude, but if suggesting to change the layout back to its somewhat original state makes any difference at all, then that is my statement.

I agree with what Bones just said about making small tweaks to it over time. I'm getting used to the the column on the right already, but everything else is just...inconvenient?

That is my constructive criticism, please don't hurt me.
Thank you for replying, I understand you're all working on it. I have no problem waiting, I just like asking questions to reassure myself XD.

My main concern/"complaint" is the page number thing. The other stuff I don't agree with much, but it looks like I'll be forced to have to get used to it anyway :(

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

I think a good improvement would to right align the top forum topics and stickies, cut out the icons (the top forums are top forums, why do I need an icon to tell me that. and stickies are stickies.) shrink the text a little and cut down the button size then expand the main forum area.

  • 01.30.2008 2:16 PM PDT

I have another suggestions, if you'd care to read it.

When in a group, you used to be able to click the banner and go to the forums. Now you have to click the name of the group within the banner to do so. So I suggest allowing us to just click the banner again. It would make things much simpler.

Oh...I love the banners for groups by the way! The Sierra 117 looking one is my favorite, hah.

Anyone else notice that Recon and Achronos quit responding 2 pages ago? I wonder what happened then?

You were warned specifically for the first post you made. You can complain, but you can't troll. It is somewhat subjective, but I was not the only one that told you were acting like a tool with that post. You've since gotten better about your posts on the subject, and I appreciate it.

yum lunch, im hungry. also, if this is possible, a change for the time? i live on the east coast. it would be nice to see my time on a post, instead of converting it. although this wasnt present even in the "old" layout, it would be a nice add.

Here's an odd idea/suggestion or thought.

The double-right arrow that takes a member to the last page? Since it is an apparent request to get to the last page, can it be changed to send to the last post on the last page instead of the top of the last page?

That's just a personal idea/preference. What do others think of it?

I strongly disagree. Because I think it is good for people to read at LEAST the last page before posting a thought, so in case the conversation has taken a bit of a turn than the original post, people can post whats being talked of at that moment.
With your idea, people could read the OP, than go right to the last post, and hit reply. Without reading anything.
I know people probably don't read many posts, but just scrolling down sometimes your eye catches the conversation topic and can see where its heading (ie, flamefest, spam, disagree/agree topics...)

I REALLY like that, that way you don't have to worry about the ghost pages. I agree with this.

If that's not up for change, then just putting the page numbers on pinned or "stickied" threads will eliminate the dilemma my group was having. I could always just unsticky it, but I rather not.

EDIT: @ A Deaf Boy: Bringing the user to the last post will bring the user to the current page, what are you talking about?

Search feature should look like this

Screw that link, anyways go to forums on there and search and you'll see what I mean.

Also once it searches, don't have it display 200 replies from the same thread, just have it list all the threads plain and simple.

See what you guys think.

That doesn't sound like a half-bad idea, Recon. Building upon that, could it be possible to incorporate that when clicking the last page when you have threads with multiple pages?

Recon said to the last POST on the last page. He doesn't want to start at the top of the page, he wants to go right to the bottom.

edit: To recon above: Fair enough. I see. Thanks for responding.

Also i n the H3 forum we prettymuch have stickys twice atm. (I know why from earlier)

@A Deaf Boy: Right, but it's not that hard to scroll up to the top of the page. In doing what he suggested, it just eliminates the inconvenience of ghost pages.

But like Recon just said, he doesn't want us arguing over the pros and cons of a possible suggestion, so lets just drop it here.
