I get more ass than a toilet seat.

Ahh why did they take out where you could see who the last post was by.

  • 02.01.2008 4:14 PM PDT

im not looking through 18 pages of whats been said, but if the signatures revert to the way it was before, and if we can see who posted last, thats fine. i think i saw achronos say that the second thing would be back, but sigs also need to revert.

Well, yeah but no one's going to click that arrow very often so having a sig is almost useless. I liked it back before the New Hatnesses existed, where your sig was at the bottom of every post you made.

A lot of people did. Mostly people who felt that their sig was a opportunity to force people to see/view something everytime they posted on any topic. That is an advertisers dream, a captive audience that cannot fast forward or miss seeing their ad.

The last revision was a change to a "everyone opts out" and then sigs were only visible by mousing over an avatar. In other words, I only saw someone's sig if I wanted to. Which is an advertisers nightmare, only people who want to look will look.

Perhaps the best compromise might be for users to have a "show all sigs" or "click to display sigs" option in their own personal settings? That way, someone who chooses to see sigs would have (in essence) every down arrow pre-clicked for them when a page loads and those who leave it to the default have to open the sig manually.

Sounds good. I would like to see that. Though, I would like to see the quotes move to the bottoms of someones post. That way you don't have to read what someone says, then go back up to read this sig.

Why are sigs so important? How does it help you follow the conversation?

sigs are totally stupid and pointless. they should be removed. Here is my analogy of the situation:

People who want sigs only want them to advertise their retarded crap. Exactly the same way that the only people who want marijuana legalized are the people who just want an easier way to get stoned. There is no REAL justification.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

(Mind you, this is coming from someone who doesn't do marijuana) Actually there are economic and medical purposes for legalization. There are also some strong benefits for the justice system.

The new changes make things look a little too messy, and it's a little eye straining. Maybe a little less and it would be perfect.

But didn't I hear someone say if it ain't broke don't fix it? Why did we fix it....

I like the new forum format but it could've looked a bit more bungier.

They don't. People like sigs because it adds a level of personalization to the site.

I've always equated sigs to bumper stickers. If someone wants to put one on their car, I don't mind. I can choose to look or not, but for the most part, my eyes are on the road.

But there are some people who think that sigs should be more like billboards. Larger, louder, more intrusive than a bumper sticker and much harder to ignore.

I personally disagree with that use.

All that I need to see to remind me is any of the thousands of other forums out there where everyone has 1 line and 4-10 word posts and bright animated sigs that fill half of my monitor.

That is the sort of "personalization" that I would always want to avoid. Because it shifts the purpose and reason for the forums to the "personalization" and the former reason, the "conversation" suffers as a result.
Well, you do have to click an arrow now Recon so ignoring sigs is not hard. That point would have been valid in the old - old hawtness when sigs were at the bottom of posts, now that the user has to click the drop down arrow to see the sig we should have more free room now.

If you invite me to your group you will be blocked.

As a remedy for the "last reply" complaint, why don't we just keep it the way it is, but when someone new replies the font changes? Or the color? And after the user has checked it it goes back to normal?

I know, probably more complicated, but you could keep the author.

id prefer if the replies were posted under the thread name, everything looks too crunched together now and its tough to separate threads from one another.

id also prefer to see who recently posted last.

i like the boxes on the right (the top forum topics and stickies).

When do we get a stickied thread talking about our loss of vision and focusing problems?

Why do we have to click to see someone's sig now? What was so wrong with the old system of hovering? It was much more efficient the other way.

It helps you make your posts more unique and possibly show of some random humor or link to a good bungie group. it's a great way for people to get to know you at a glance. I miss the old way, how signatures could be seen just by scrolling down the page. I used to enjoy just reeding through sigs to see what i could find.

To be honest I'm already starting to like the new layout. Seemed a bit cramped at first but that was probably because I was looking at more stuff at once. With the changes that are going to be made soon I think this layout could be great.

Some people view their sigs as their lucky medallions. Something they can't post with out. I view sigs as the persons unique way of representing their self.

Thats just your opinion though. Which is fine. But I really don't see why they need to be removed. Their out of your way so why should you have to worry about it. Its just like what recon said. Their bumper stickers. With out the fake bullet hole stickers on the side.
