I thought we were given more room for sigs, but the character limit is still 500. Will that change when the sig window is 'fixed' to not be so short? If not, then the increased width offers little or no use.

I'm slowly getting used to it. I like that I can see the top forum topics and pins even while i'm looking at a thread already.

ie: right now

Now, if it was a pet cake or pie, then Hell YEAH! I'd eat that -blam!- man!

When the 2007 update came I hated it at first but i got used to it and i think that every member of bungie.net will be able to do the same over time.
The new site seems alot more organised to me. I like it, great job bungie.

While I fully support the layout of the threads themselves (no signatures is a bloody godsend), the actual layout of the forum's index is the most terrible forum layout my eyes have ever seen. It's completely cluttered. There's so much useless crap all over the place. Simply put, it looks horrible.

Here, I just made this using Paint:

http://bungiefans.org/kritz/bungielayout2.PNG

Ignoring the white user-names (which bleach the eyes way too much), the pointless small icons and a few errors, that's what a forum should look like.

I think it was Da Vinci who said, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".

OMG, gaming for the fun of it.

Any news if the last poster name will return, i'm still finding it difficult to navigate threads not knowing if anyones replied to them. It's kind of irritating actually.

Clicking to see signatures is awful.

At least make it a roll-over as it was before.

I agree that the index looks cluttered now, but your format just doesn't have enough information. Timestamps (OP and last) and last poster information are all useful informations.

While I actually agree with you, I opted to throw out the timestamps for illusionary effect, making the layout seem nicer than what it actually should.

Regardless, the key issue I want to stress is how much better it looks on the eyes. It's not a complete sodding mess of bolded and clustered hyper-links shambled together with ancient forum icons, as if it were the icing on top of a poo-poo cake.

It's not like I care, though. This is my first post since December. It's as if this new layout's the "AND DON'T COME BACK" kick in the bum that I was waiting for.

I think what I'm going to do is remove the OP author on the topics page and add back the last reply name. Quite honestly, the last reply author is more useful information than the OP name.

I was going to make this suggestion but it sounds like you are already planning on it, great news.

Over all it all looks nice, just takes a little getting used to.

Why not have both. Or you could just go back tot he old forums.

Your suggested format is missing lots of information, not to mention the fact that it is completely unworkable because you're assuming quite a small length for thread subjects.

I find you comments interesting because most people complaining don't like the thread layout (even though the thread is still about the same width as before). The index change is pretty much a positive change, once we fix the lack of info on the side boxes. Aside from a few padding issues here and there, of course.

By the way, the next release will likely be next week, so that's probably the next time you'll see changes. We're working a few ideas, most involving changes on the posts page. But the topics page and the create posts page are likely to stay generally the same (again, not mentioning the issues with missing info I talked about earlier).

I may put both. We're still playing with it.

You're not getting the old format back. We're quite happy with the topic index and the create post page. The thread page needs a little work (mostly because the pinned topics and top topics boxes aren't really useful information once you're reading a thread). But this format solves a few of the things we've been wanting to fix.

Fight hard, break bones >{o

the stickies were FAR more noticable when you had to scroll down them. sure now you will read the title a million times more, but who is going to actually click on one during the middle of a post? and page numbers would be nice... (they are too small now. did you think things through or were you just bored?)

omg what did you do to the sigs? why would you do that to us? they went from being force fed down your throat to perfect and then to a mystery game. i finally found them at least...

and i agree with removing OP name and putting in the last to reply. when you visit a thread you usually read the FIRST post. so if the author is that important, you'll get it. but overall i liked the former version better. hopefully i'll change my mind when those updates come.

There was a man from Allentown who fed his son to death.
He calmly watched him gorge himself until his final breath.
And there he stood, surprised and shocked above his tiny frame.
He said: "I bear no blame for this. I only share his name!"

Everyone I have asked agrees that we miss being able to return to a group's forum by clicking the banner. Now we have to click "Private Forum" or the group's name in the banner. I prefered the old way. Return that to the way it was please, but make sure they still look awesome.

Just for clarification, define "we."

Is "we" Bungie.net forum users, or the webteam.

I'm not going to say whether or not the new layout is a positive change or a negative one, not yet. I'll wait and see next week when you update it to decide.

I mentioned this to someone and they agreed wholeheartedly..

Anywho...would it make sense to the Mods to take the "Forum Rules" sticky and remove it from the "Pinned Items" and post in as a sticky in the actual forum? My reasoning is that I believe with it always being the #1 front-page thread, more people will notice it...and read it. There would be no excuse for people saying they didn't know where it was...and w/it being the only sticky in that general area, it will stand out more.

Of course, the other "Pinned Items" are fine where they are.

Thanks for the consideration! Keep up the good work.

While I actually agree with you, I'm going to argue for argument's sake.

http://kritz.bungiefans.org/bungielayout3.PNG

There's an updated version. The only thing it doesn't include is a "last poster" and "last post date". Tooltips display creation date, and I've made space for icons. I didn't bother with fleshing out icon displays as much as possible, because I don't like all these radically different icon images on these pages.

As for the "Last Poster", I'm sure there's no harm in throwing in an additional column to fit it in.

I just think that the forums are the weak link in an otherwise radically improved website. I haven't attempted to read this thread to see the general consensus (and by no means do I plan to), but I'm going to have to assume there's a majority vote against the aesthetics of the page.

One final suggestion (something I've wanted in this forum for years), would it be possible to put a "quote" button directly near the "reply" button? Surely that'd be more acceptable than my "turn Bungie into vBulletin" overhaul idea.

EDIT: I don't know what you're planning to do with thread layouts, but don't change it too much. The design right now is great. All it needs is a "quote" button, and it'd be perfect. (Please don't make the signatures visible.)

I would have to agree that one of the things that I miss the most is the last poster and last post date and time, since it helps me figure out if someone has replied to one of my recent posts.

Instead of pinned topics and top forum topics, a list of topics that the logged in user has recently posted in, that way the user can check back on those threads to see when someone has replied; such a function can help keep the conversation going in that thread. If you get tired of a thread, you can use a minus button next to the recent thread to remove it from your recent threads list.

I realize that there is a saved thread functionality, however I can't see my saved threads in the forum thread title view. If the Saved Thread Section was created (instead of the recent thread section idea), then I would like to see the saved thread list section be placed above Top Forum Topics which would then be placed above Pinned Topics (which doesn't change as frequently as the other two).

What ever happened with the outbox/ sent box for messaging is the real question. Achronos when are you guys ever getting around to that?

But anyways, I don't really mind the forum update there are some good features with it. The only thing that I could say that would bug me is the layout some of the stuff right now. It just looks kind of weird.
