I know that we'll all get accustomed to change, but damn. I really liked the old way signatures were implemented, by just hovering your mouse over their icons. And like I said, do the pinned/top forum topics still have to be on the right-hand side while we're viewing the thread?

Aieeeeeeeeeeee.

why can't we see who replied last?
I know this is the worst thing they could've done! Now, I get lost and forget where I posted.

If they don't change it eventually, I most likely won't come here anymore.

I don't get why they had to change everything. Couldn't they just add the stickies to the side and leave everything else the same? I mean, it's all so small now. The sigs are much smaller, everything is so cramped, the fonts are ugly. I just honestly hate it. I preferred the other way much more. I also hate how our usernames aren't above the avatar.

I am still adjusting to the new layout. It seems cluttered but I like the pinned topics. I just wish the font was smaller and you could see who made the last reply.

This is awesome.
Just gotta get used to it. :)

Ya, I like the idea of the changes, but it's a little confusing. I'll get use to it though.

I'm going to pin this topic for feedback on the layout. Please remember that some of you will need to flush your browser cache to fix a few things (like get new header images) if your browser doesn't automatically notice the changes like it should.

And yes, we've already noticed a few bugs (like the author not displaying on a post with zero replies). But by and large, we view this a positive change, if a bit jarring at first.

Anything on the search feature?

Also anything on last reply by ________?

I love the sticky idea btw, but once I click to go into a thread they need to dissappear.

Some bugs I've noticed and others have already posted about.

1) When a thread just starts (no one replies yet), we can't see who the author is. Don't know if it was designed that way, but it would be nice to see the author before we click on it.

2) Some of the forum banners are getting cut off. Such as The Flood's saying being cut across the middle.

3) If someone is blacklisted, they are saying they are just getting an internal server error. Was there suppose to be a "You are blacklisted" page?

Overall I like the layout but I'm a bit picky on a couple of things:

Firstly, it feels weird not having the "last reply by <author>" message. I used that as a simple and easy way of checking whether the forum had new replies or not. For example, if it says "last reply by ash55", I know there haven't been any replies since.

On the main index, just a little more space between each thread would make it look less cluttered in my opinion (although that would mean it takes longer to scroll down further).

Since it does seem like this is going to stay, can't we get more room for sigs. They are just too small now.

Agreed. Seems a little "too much" when you first looked at it, but we'll get used to it in a couple of days. I like it.

Regarding the optimatch forum--

We've also added a restriction to the Optimatch forum - only people with a linked Gold or Silver gamertag can post in there now. It doesn't have to be visible to others, just linked.
I see this as a change for the better - after Halo 3 launched a lot of people with no linked gamertags began to post and clutter that forum. I think that it should be restricted further though - only let those with played Halo 2/Halo 3 games post in the forum.

can we see replys # on stickys, don't wanna half to keep checking to see if new info has been posted.

  • 01.30.2008 12:14 PM PDT

You know, funny thing is, most people are probably not even going to notice this thread. Even though this thread is now on the right-hand side, quite a few people will probably miss it anyway. I know I would've if Tom didn't say it was gonna be sticky'd =X

To me, stickies (now more than ever) seem like white-noise to me, and just generally skip them anyway.

And right after this was pinned, there have been a lot less replies to this thread as well.

Meow.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

The pinned topics move is nice, the sig hover was better.

Ok. Now i've got some food down me (mm.... blood sugar) time for an actual constructive post.

Primary concerns:

Massive reduction in workable screen space. A good 1/4 of my screen is now taken by stickies, something i couldn't care less about as i could probably recite most of them by heart..

Disparity in text sizes used. The size of the text for the stickies means they're all across multiple lines, but the size of the text used for the "Posted by..." line is almost unreadable if the user is using smaller font sizes (a couple of moapers reduced their font size to stop the sticky section taking up so much space)

Now virtually no white space. Posts butt right up against each other, there is nearly no space at the edges and there is a column of very bright colours down the right. Makes for a very crowded design. For those of you with selective memory, here's a comparison screenshot. Just look how much less stuff there is on the left.

Removal of "last post at... by..." section.

Change in font? I don't know what it is, but i'm finding it physically difficult to read the titles of topics on the front page of the forums. They're blending into each other and becoming hard to read, i'm having to concentrate on specific titles. Making browsing the forums into a chore.

Now, i can understand why you've done this - to try and tidy the forums up. But really, all i think it's done has crowded what was otherwise a perfectly acceptable design. If you absolutely must remove the stickies from the forums, can you at least remove that awful sidebar from the actual topic viewing screen and just leave it on the forum screen?

ed: also. since stickying, this thread has received alot less attention than the non-sticky duplicate. imo, stickies are alot less visible as they just blend into the background. I think everyone's just blocking out the entire right side of the forum

So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

Note: I already posted this in another thread, but since Achronos decided to make this the "official" thread for commenting on the forum changes I will just simply copy and paste.

The odd thing is what I like and what I hate are one in the same. I like that the stickies are on the side, always easy to access, and not cluttering up the top of the forum. On the other hand, it reduces the space for posts. As you scroll down a thread the room on the right that is allocated to the stickies becomes dead space.

I would suggest to take the stickies out of the threads themselves and use that room for a larger posting area. As of the main forum I think the new format works great there.

Edit: (New stuff)
The new signature system isn't very intuitive. Also the stickies don't show page numbers; so for the ones that get continuous used you are forced to always go to the first page (that may in some way be a good thing but still it's not very convenient).

Same here. I like to see who last posted. This is also a problem in the threads that are in the Sticky and Top Forum boxes. Maybe we are just to lazy to click the first page and then go to the last page. But some of the stickies usually aren't updated for days, weeks, or even months.

Regarding groups:
You should sort the new group skins by letters!
...or are they suppoused to be randomized?

I agree. I know the same topics will be there every time, so why would I look over there? I almost never, ever read stickies. But I'll glance every once in a while to see if there's anything new, or whatever.

But meh, guess this works. Still, this thread has got less replies since it was stick'd =X
