And yeah, Tom, it's human nature (at least here, on b.net) to always complain about something. Most of the changes here are welcome, and what you say is final, because frankly, you're teh magical Overlord here =] But we're all entitled to our opinions here, and they may not do jack--blam!- here. We're not begging you to change anything, we're just voicing our opinions.

There really isn't a way to see/show that a sticky or top topic has new replies or link to that last page/post, is there?

I just noticed that too, Recon. We now have an extra step, because we must enter the topic then go to the last page. Where as before we could simply go to the last page.

The maximum effective size of a thread is about 10000 pages. After that, it becomes extremely difficult to keep the pager functional and updated. Even before that, it becomes a chore. But it is an edge case that frankly isn't really important to fix. There are a few things with smaller page sizes, but saying your thread is as large is yours is not the way to get us to look at it... my response would be "lock the thread."

We have the same problem in one of my groups. We currently have a thread that contains almost a million posts (I'm not exaggerating there) and the page count is off by several hundred pages! It's nearly impossible to find the last active page in that thread!

Okay, I have a concern:

I have a thread in one of my groups that 605 pages long. Once we hit page 7 or 10 when the thread was first created, we started seeing these "ghost pages" (as I like to call them) where a new page will be created, but the previous page still has under 25 posts. Therefore, that "ghost page" displays no posts and says "topic not found."

It's not that big of a deal to the group, you just have to go back one page. However, this new layout doesn't let you go back previous pages from the last page. So as of now, I cannot see or get to the current page in that thread.

Will this be fixed? I understand there are a lot of changes needed to be made because of the new layout, so I'm wondering if that would be one of them.

I hope this doesn't sound too confusing, I'm hoping a Mod will understand what I'm trying to say. Thanks.

the only workaround that I know for that is when you are at the thread listing for the forum/group and know that clicking on the "latest post" will take you to the gghist page, look at the page count numbers and click on the one before the last page number listed,
That's the problem though, when you're on the ghost page, there is no option to get back. See what I mean?

The only way around it right now that I have found works, it changing the page number in the address bar, but that's a pain :/

Well no one can ever blame Bungie for getting rid of negative feed-back after reading this topic. There were ten something threads on this topic and they decide to pin this one? This wasnt even the first or most replied to.

That a side, im fine with the overall look of this update. Theres only a few things but those are more in the personal prefernces genre like the banner font size etc. The only things that doesnt seem to work like it should are the quote-frames, suddenly theyre just gone, but im going to blame that on IE 6 here at work.

I think it looks horrible. What happened to the simple, clean, easy to read layout? Are you trying to discourage people from using the forums?

In one of my groups we have a sticky topic that has a ghost page that we can't reach unless we hit next 602 times to get to the 602nd freaking page. If I hit the hop to the last page button it will take me to the 603rd page with no way to get back to the 602nd page because there isn't a page back button on the ghost page. The way we dealt with this in the past was to ignore the ghost page. Please change it back I think this is the worst change I've ever seen to a website, I'm usually one to allow a few days for it to wear on me, but this is awful.

Wouldn't a standard popular piece of forum software like vBulletin be more appropriate for this site?

Okay-

Seeing old images? Flush your cache (CTRL + F5)
Optimatch forum - somewhat useful.
Signatures - Need to be enlarged.
Work space - Needs to be enlarged.
Stickies - Seem to be less noticeable.

All in all, I think that this update will work if a few of these small sort of "problems" are fixed. It just feels cramped.

How could you even get a thread with 10k pages? SPAM comes to mind.

I think that 100 pages is enough for a thread. After that, repeated ideas and posts appear, and the spam begins to build up.

It's starting to look like the Bioware forums, and I rarely visit those because of that reason.

Speaking of the Bioware forum, is it possible that we can get something like this?

because right now, the whole "top forum topics" is just hindersome (and useless) for me.

That's going to break my heart if I have to lock the thread in my group that's just as large.

Another concern about that I have is the fact that these "ghost pages" accumulate after about 10 pages or so. Does this mean we will have to create a new thread after every 10 pages? To fix it, you just need to have what was there before, the thing that allowed you to see pages 1, 2, 3, etc....(then the current three pages here). Am I right?

No signature found. Click here to change this.

The only things that I don't really care for/would like to see changed are the font size on the forum topic listings - make them a bit smaller, and the width of the same page. I think it would be a little less cramped-looking if it was a bit wider. That and the "posted by" and "last reply by" stuff that seems to be a common complaint. Other than that, it's the best site update in a while, in my opinion.

Hahaha. You're kidding, right?

One other problem I have is in Groups, you can't just click the nice little title bar anymore to go back to the forum index. You have to actually click the text on it, rather than just clicking the picture. The only way I can ever remember getting back to the forum index is just by clicking the title bar picture.

@just another fan: Agreed. That's work much more nicely methinks. But meh <3

There was a man from Allentown who fed his son to death.
He calmly watched him gorge himself until his final breath.
And there he stood, surprised and shocked above his tiny frame.
He said: "I bear no blame for this. I only share his name!"

What was wrong with the last one? Nothing! It was perfect and there was no reason to change it. This new layout is just...bad. IMO

I can tell you what you're doing wrong. You're wearing pants.

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet (I'm far too lazy to read all five pages), but I really liked being able to click a group's banner to return to its forum.

It would be gee-golly nice to be able to do that again.

Ah, I see now. You can click the group's name to return to the forum. Still, I liked being able to click the banner.

Like Bones said, it's a private group. It's our "Hang-out thread" where we just talk about our day and hold off-topic conversations. There is no spam involved.

But lets get back on topic here..
