Why in the sidebar is there a "Back to Forum Index" button when I am already in the forum...?

I am just posting little things I notice as I explore...

  • 01.30.2008 1:49 PM PDT

but there's no sense crying over every mistake
you just keep on trying until you run out of cake

It's...different. Too new yet to make a judgment as to whether it was better before vs. now. I would personally like to see a little bolder line on the quote boxes.

I like it. Font and sig box needs tweaking. I'd also like to see who posted last.

You know for many of us this place is a kind of get-away. A place to go and get rid of stress and not have to worry about too much, this is our home, our playground if you will. You've taken out all the cool toys, put in a bunch of animals on springs and told us to enjoy. When we tell you we don't like it we're told to give you constructive criticism. When we point out we enjoyed the old playground the way it was you say that's too bad and don't give reasons for the change. If this is for aesthetics then just change it back, it's obvious that many people are just irritated with it and there weren't that many complaints about the old way. And if I may give a suggestion for future changes, make small changes over time and you won't get so much complaint.

You are right on every level.
This change was not asked for. No one was complaining about the old one, so why get rid of the amazing lay out for this one? It was uncalled for.

And now for some more constructive criticism:

The thread listing is much harder to read now. It looks too cluttered.
The pinned topics are even less visible than before.
The page is far too narrow.

There are some other reasons why I think it's awful, but I'm not able to clearly express them right now.

DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING IT!

It's an interesting change, but if there is anything I don't like is that it the site does feel a bit... well a bit clutered...

On a side note, and one got any pics of the new themes?

It's gonna take some getting used to but I think I can get used to it.

But I did like the old way better.

Hey, the new update looks great. I really like how the pinned topics don't hog the front page anymore. The only thing that I think could be adjusted is the text size. It looks bigger then it used to (not in a good way).

Call me Wolfie | My anti-drug
New Flood for life <3

We’re looking back laughing because they called us crazy, but we took that chance on that feeling, living for the moment, we were spinning in. Maybe we were a lot of things, but we weren't crazy.

I don't want to sound demanding or rude, but if suggesting to change the layout back to its somewhat original state makes any difference at all, then that is my statement.

I agree with what Bones just said about making small tweaks to it over time. I'm getting used to the the column on the right already, but everything else is just...inconvenient?

That is my constructive criticism, please don't hurt me.

Yeah....Hey. The "Back to Forum Index" button is useless, because I can just click the forum header to go back to it. Its bigger, and easier to hit...
The button on the sidebar is totally unnecessary. Right?

Anyone else notice that Recon and Achronos quit responding 2 pages ago? I wonder what happened then?

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

I never got an answer to my question regarding the "unleash ninjas" within groups.

Like this.

Recon is probably getting on with his real life.

Achronos is probably implementing the changes we've requested, such as a bit of spacing between thread listings and a reduction in font size on the sticky list.

Now. Remember when he told you to stop trolling? Yeah. That.

I'm sorry I was just noticing the fact that nobody representing Bungie had responded in a while. I thought that was relevant, don't see how that's trolling.

Really, the most unsettling thing is the pinned topics on the right...but I understand why they're there.

One thing I really like is the name and member status at the top of the post instead of beneath the avatar.

When I first saw the arrow by the groups I thought you would be able to look at their groups just by clicking on it...which would have been sweet.

Honestly, that's the only change I would suggest. It may seem redundant when there's a link right there, but I think it would be much better, and easier, to give a list (you don't have to link the lists, it would sort of be like the sig) of all the groups that person is in. Not having to go to an entirely different page to view groups would probably encourage people to actually look at groups more.

Edit: Another thing I just barely noticed is the number of replies to the right of the thread...I like that too. Just in case you were feeling a little depressed with all the negative feed back, Achronos. Can I call you Chronos from now on? That's such a sweet name.

I noticed topics in the main forum have page numbers back, but the Top Forum Topics and the Pinned topics don't. That gonna change?

When hitting "Top Topics", I notice the format is very similar to the old way, but different in some aspects. THIS is what the forums should look like. i like the fonts and everything!

"Inveniam Viam Aut Facium" _~

if ( !now ){ when(); }

WOW!!!! First impression, I like it.

It is a major improvement.

[But the changes broke my automation code...]

Locked Threads should not be 'Top Forum Topics'.

Can this be gray?

It is also interesting that a good portion of "top topics" are in an archived and locked status.

Perhaps that flag needs to be included as a "do not display as a top topic" criteria.

Yeah. And some are from a LONG time ago. There are more recent hot topics that aren't shown...But those are. Weird.

Everyone else who posted that they didn't like it didn't announce that it was a "pile of poo" and "full of phail." They also gave specific reasons and engaged in the conversation.

You were warned because you were just trolling. I don't censor the people who don't like things, but I do expect a level of communication higher than "you phail, this is poo." Make specific complaints, this was done for specific reasons, not just for the sake of change. Given the amount of work it is to change things, we don't do things like this lightly. Suggesting we did so is just not helpful and a waste of time to post.

When entering a forum, the first thing I do is usually see if the Stickies have been posted on. I can't see that now. In a Group, that is annoying, because there is a lot less activity, and I now would have to click ALL the stickies to see if they have been posted on...

In short, put "go-to" pages on the stickies and include post numbers and "last post by"

Some things (like altering the master template for the forum pages) can't be changed slowly. We prefer to make incremental changes (they're WAY easier to test), but sometimes, that just can't be done.

Of course, you say "change things in small increments" and that's what we do. Indeed, I've already started on implementing much of the small adjustments many of you suggested to this layout, and they'll be made live fairly quickly.
