Any ideas on how they're gonna handle button configurations for dual wielding and grenades? i thought they'd make the typical swap-button as "x" and also have the option to pick up a weapon to dual wield off the ground using "Y", and disbale using grenades, so each weapon has it's individual trigger, like Red Faction 2 (which totally sucked)...maybe to draw your second weapon for dual wielding holding Y button when no weapon is at your feet...

I dunno. Hit me with your theories.

I personally think the dual wielding should be limited to plama pistol & SMG, MAYBE including the pistol if they tone it down power-wise....limited to single-handed weapons the dual wielding should be.

I'm sure Bungie's got it under control.

P.S.- will we be able to fire our main weapon while riding the new ATV?

this is what i think

you start off with one SMG, hold the y button and MC will pull out the other one and you'll have two. no gernades while two weapons out. hold y agian to put one away. hit y to cycle throuh weapons normaly. And hold x to put away all weapons and do the 2x running speed thingy and each weapon has its own trigger

I think each gun will have its own trigger because you won't be able to use grenades, so that has to be it

I think they will have it like if u already have a SMG or pistol. and u go over another it will say hold Y to use double pistols or something like that.

I think if you are holding two gun on your hands , press right trigger to fire for right gun press left trigger to fire for left gun , you know what i mean

One of the Marathon games had dual wielding in it. Dual fusion pistols looks sweet, go look at their screenshot section for Marathon.

i think it's as simple as this. you can only carry two weapons. you use "Y" to switch between the two weapons. so if you want to use 2 weapons at the same time you hold down "Y" for a couple seconds instead of just tapping it to switch between weapons.

I think if u have 2 guns (only one in hand) u hold y and the other comes into use. One trigger per weapon. Just press y and u go to the weapon in ur right hand. And just the normal x swap and drop controls.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who know binary, and those who don't.

yea theres only single handed weapons for dual wielding stuff. and yea u can use weapons with the atv, but only one handed ones(allegedly). as far as the controls, logically the only way to really do it well is with two triggers, and i think they alraeady confirmed that dual wielding gets rid of grenades(while u have the double weapons out). so that takes care of that. actually, they could just have both gund linked to the same trigger for simplicity, and then use the trigger to toggle back to single weapons and grenades. i have no idea how they'll do it, bt it should work well. as far as the double weapons being balanced, bungie's got that under wraps too. in an old update, they mentioned that dual wielding players were dreadnaughts on the battlefield, so they had to program in counterbalances. this is, in my own opinion, which is completely unconfirmed, but rather logical, prolly gonna be sumthing to do with accuracy. it would make it fair, that using two weapons considerably lowers your accuracy. nothing about the weapons power could be changed, because that just wouldnt make sense, same with rate of fire and everything else, but accuracy is a logical variable. or amybe u move slower cause you're carrying more. even tho single handed weapons arent that heavy. and of course, they dont get to use grenades, which can be decisive. it'll all work out ok, although using two weapons will prolly be, as it honestly should be, better than using just one.

You said you wished the pistol wast toned down a little - bungie has stated that it will be to make it more evened out. So no need to worry about that.

I think that since the whole controler was used in the first halo that they may use the BACK button for duel wielding instead of the score button. if they do they will probobly turn off grenades like in the E3 movie MC has to drop a gun to throw a grenade. It will probobly be made to use both triggers even though it sucks. I think they should make both triggers an option.

THey might have to use combonations for certain things because otherwise it would take really long and the same button would have like 10 different functions.

Escape will make me God.

I think it's pretty much a given that only single-handed weapons will be available for dual wielding. While the pistol would probably be one of the deadliest weapons to have two of, I am not sure that the pistol has even been confirmed yet for Halo 2. The Battle Rifle seems to have the same function, with a slightly lowered rate of fire. That said, I think players would be upset if the ability to wield two pistols were left out. It's definitely a possibility, but I am sure the pistol will be nerfed, i.e. you probably won't be able to zoom and damage dealt will not be as great.

Now, for the real question. How do you think the controls will be set up for dual wielding?I have spoken with many players and gotten their theories as to how switching to and back from dual wielding will work.

There is the possibility that you just keep switching weapons with Y until both weapons through. For some reason I am not sure it will work this way. It could lead to switching to both weapons when you simply want to switch back to the first. Holding down Y for a few seconds seems practical though.

It is also probable that either the black or white buttons would be used for this function if, say, the flashlight were left out of multiplayer (not necessarily the best choice for stealth anyhow). This method, however, seems rather cumbersome and is prone to error due to the location of those buttons on the controller.

One combination that could work would be to click down on both joystick buttons simultaneously. This would result in the ability to quickly switch back and forth from dual wielding in the heat of battle without having to take a finger off of your aiming stick (I know some people don't play that way though). It seems like a method which would work. Seldomly do you actually click both of those sticks at the same time, usually just one after the other.

Anyone else have a theory? It's really difficult to say due to there being multiple control configurations, likely with the ability to completely customize your config (which would be a really wise choice on Bungie's part).

I must say that I like playing Halo PC a little more now due to the ability to perform certain functions that were awkward for me with an xbox controller. Stuff like turning really fast and melee attacking using the default controls. I know a lot of players use their middle or ring fingers to fire their weapon and use their pointer finger to hit the X,Y,A,B buttons, but it was never a very natural way for me to play. I am definitely going to have to reconsider my control scheme when Halo 2 comes out.

Ltrigger fire left weapon

to chose which gun to drop pull the left or right trigger along with holding X

press Y swicth weapons normally
hold Y get out both weapons

Hmm, yeah, I did forget about the d-pad. :D

I've played other games like CDS that used the d-pad to switch weapons. It just felt, how do you say... counterintuitive. A simple tap up to dual wield would be rather easy though.

Yea dpad still has plenty of of room. Also in some interviews and articles, it has been said that you can't throw gernades while holding 2 weapons. Also it was said that Right Trigger for one weapon while Left Trigger is for the other.

The real question is on leaning, sprinting, and the enable/disable of duel weapons. For those I could guess Dpad myself.

It would be cool if the d-pad was usued for perhaps squad based commands for the ODSTs, or some thing like that, but who knows.

What if..
Ok, remember in the E3 Demo.. when the SMG's fired, they seemed to fire a fraction of a second off, and sometimes one stopped while the other kept firing. This leads me to believe that each trigger is for one gun. Also, when you are dual weilding a plasma pistol and an SMG, if one trigger controlled both, the plasma would charge and the smg would fire.. So a good strategy would be to use one gun until it needs reloading and then use the other one.

Next, let's say that holding "Y" changed to dual. Good right? What happens if you are dual weilding but you want to pick a weapon up When you press "X" will both guns drop and u get the next one? Or will you have to go to singular weilding to pick weapons up.

Also, how will dual weilding the same gun work? if you are holding 1 SMG and find one on the ground, how can u pick it up and use it to duel weild? Will like tapping "X" pick it up and holding "X" get the ammo?

i cant think of anything anymore.. and i have 1000 char.

I dont want it to be "more evened out." People complain about how it's a three shot kill, but the sniper, rocket, and shotgun are all one shot kills. I just think if they want to even things out they should increase the power of the weaker weapons like the assult rifle and needler instead of decreasing the power of a perfect weapon.

I believe it has been confirmed that L trigger is for the left gun and R trigger is for the right gun. You can charge the plasma pistol and fire your other gun at the same time. I read this somewhere...although I cant remember the name.

I dont think you can only hold two guns total because in the E3 demo, the marine gave Master Chief his SMGs and it didn't look as though he threw his gun down.

In Unreal Tournament, only the pistol could be dual-wielded and when you had one and stepped over another, you had two. I dont think this will be the case in Halo 2.

Maybe when you step over a gun and it has the ability to be dual-wielded, you have the choice to either holdX or hold Y. X is held when you want to exhange the gun and Y is used when you want to dual-wield it. This option wouldn't be available on guns like the shotgun or sniper. :D
