The Real Genesis
117649 years ago...
“I live to see the horrible crimes I have committed against gods, and men. I’ve seen the darkness consume the light, but the light can NEVER be extinguished. I live in a prison of my own design, I am lost in time.” The Gravemind Chanted to its victims, the only ones around to hear. The victim’s dead and rotting bodies became extensions of his own, becoming puppets to his miserable game. The Gravemind was its centre. Its mind. Slowly they were consumed by more rotting bulbous dead bodies the flesh mangled and gangrene. These bodies were the Gravemind’s being, the reason why it is here it. It controlled all of them. They were parasite, one that could not be beaten known by the ancients as the Flood. They lay there in wait for a new sentient life form to find their ring-world and be consumed like all the rest.
The day before yesterday... The way their world ends.
“The -blam!--sapiens, are they on the Ark?” Didact asked. The flood had breached the outer walls. It was only a matter of time before they reached the locked door of the control room of Alpha Halo. Alpha Halo, like all of the others, was a massive ring world roughly Ten thousand kilometres in diameter with the inside of the ring covered in a lush environment. Forests and seas and deserts. Salvation of a Doomed life. The exterior though was that of metal and industry the contrast was extraordinary and was one of the eight ultimate creations Didact species had ever made. The control room was a huge room roughly 1 mile in diameter, although the only light that aluminised it was the hologram of the ring world Alpha Halo.
“Affirmative. We are closing the portals now. The flood will not be able to enter.” A Grave voice flowed through the computer’s speakers set in the middle of the control room. Another light winked on from across the room out from one of the Massive 600meter air filters. It flew across the room with surprising speed and stopped over the console. It was a small floating robot the size and shape of a Basketball. It had a blue “eye” of two circles the smaller circle hung high in the larger one with a line down the middle. The Metal surrounding the robot seemed to flow around it the light reflecting off it.
“ The Flood has consumed the exterior guards, I would recommend firing the rings now or you suffer a worse demise.” It said in a businesslike manner. It was the only cheery voice he had heard since the order was given out.
“ We are all doomed not just I. When we initiate there will be no turning back” Didact replied solemnly. Although the Construct did have a point, the Flood was a worse demise. He had witnessed his comrade being turned into them. It was unstoppable. Whoever fell was consumed increasing their numbers from tens to millions in a single hour. Whole worlds had been lost and now the cancer had spread beyond the line, The Forrunners controlled space. Trillions of method trying to contain or eradicate them failed only this one would truly work. Obliterate the whole galaxy of sentient life starving the flood, they would have to kill themselves.
Yet some would remain... the Humans. Humans are the direct decedents of the Forrunners the only ones like them. They are them, Just separated by evolution. One day they will carry on their work and hopefully find a way to save them all. The Gravemind does not now about them yet and he would attempt to keep it that way.
“ I am finishing off the messages now. Hopefully when they understand our intent they will find a better way.” Didact finished off the terminal message. And sent it to the actual terminal boxes held on Earth in one of the gate ways to the Ark. It had read:
This is how it all begins,
Just in time to once again dance on the knife edge of oblivion
To rebuild what the halos have both destroyed and more,
For 2 enemies now stand where before there was only one,
The fate we escaped, the fate we may relive,
I almost convinced myself that no one was listening,
That the waves of the past had rolled through once again,
But a chance remains to change the universe anew,
Learn of our past,
take these keys and dip from the wells of history,
perhaps through others eyes you may find how to save us all.
Another conversation was going on between a Human kwon among his people as N’Chala and the librarian.
“Why can we not wait? You cannot end yourselves.” His voice was tearful at the burden the humans now possessed.
“Because, if the Flood discovers you, then none of us have the ray of light that your race possesses. You will understand someday. “The grave voice said again, it was the Librarian. It had taken Didact over 10 minutes to realize it was her solemn voice.
“We must initiate the count down.” Didact said with amazing dexterity considering the new threat that had just exploded behind him. A bulbous green alien came out from the hole, then ten, one hundred, a thousand. Didact touched his shaking hand on the terminal allowing the ring to prime for the Ark’s signal.
“They’ve breached, the time is NOW!” Didact exclaimed.
3 stacked platforms opened up like uncoiling rope. The Hologram had disappeared, Replaced with calculations and code. The spiralling waves of energy emitted from a place underground. It expanded and pulsed then collected at the top of the control room.
“Would you have done it, if you had the choice?” Didact asked the ambient Construct. It seemed to look bleakly at him for a second, an eternity for an AI. Then it replied.
“Yes, the flood must not be allowed to escape.”
The Flood began to charge. Guilty Spark flew between Didact and the Flood. Its Eye now pulsed red like a ruby, and a powerful beam, like the Rings beam emitted from its eye. It burned the Flood but was only rewarded by another wave of flood tenfold larger than the last.
“Please let it be done!” Didact desperately pleaded. Codes flew across the room.
A lonely flood Infection seized its chance. There was too many for Guilty Spark to handle. It leapt a small garden shed higher over Guilty Spark and trundled over to Didact. It crawled up and with its tentacles grabbed his powerful yet slender neck. It wrestled for a moment then forced a large tentacle through Didact spine. He screamed in agony as this infestation started to take over his body, thoughts and mind. His thick skin weakened and bubbled as the tissue became a rotten green. The Flood stopped Didact’s nervous system, his memories being ripped away from him. His first kiss, the first days of education and warfare and himself finishing the last piece of the almost completed Ark. It would save the Humans from the storm.
“I WILL NOT BECOME YOU!” Didact said expelling his last breath.
“YOU ARE FOOD AND NOTHING MORE!” a bellowing voice of the Gravemind replied. Didact watched as he was consumed, but it was not the Flood that had ended his life. The Last codes flashed around the room.
Array Authorized…_{Activate}
Rings online…_{Activate}
<Fire>
The Devine wind rushed through the galaxy. It pulsed and wrapped around every planet at super illuminal speeds, cleansing the worlds of the Sin known as the flood. The Gravemind Cursed as most of his body withered away. The lack of abundant food took its measure on him. It had pained him but he had achieved Its peace. It dwelled on Delta Halo in a gloomy tunnel. A humungous tentacle 12 stores high reached through the imaginary bars of his tomb, lost in time.
The Librarian, sat on a reed chair made by N’Chala. Over a computer in a little house on the mountain that would be known as MT. Kilimanjaro in the future. She typed with high speed and added her final message some of it uncompleted to the Terminal records:
"THIS IS MY FINAL ENTRY, AND I AM LEFT WITH ONE HOPE
THAT ONE DAY, SOMEONE, ANYONE IS AROUND TO WITNESS THIS WARNING
{//}
KNOW THAT A THOUSAND OTHER PLANS WERE TRIED AND FAILED
{//}
KNOW THAT ENERGETIC AND TENACIOUS AS LIFE IS
IT HAS AN ANTITHESIS JUST AS POWERFUL
IT IS THAT THING THAT WE MUST OBLITERATE.
She then stood outside in her little garden. She watched as the blue certain slowly consumed the outer planets, then the asteroid belt. She watched as it enveloped her and was consumed by the Blue wave.
