My Story (if you do not want to read a bold THE END will show you where the end of it is)

Well, when I was eight I bought my X-box (not 360)by selling some old drums I had stored away in my basement. When I first plugged in my X-box I was happy, then I discovered an X-box live trial card. My brother and dad helped me create my account that I still use today. They did everything, they even helped me create my hotmail account. Unfortunately, they forgot the password and I forgot the answer to my last recovery question, so now I cannot link my gamertag. At first I never thought I would need my password until I got halo 2. I visited bungie.net for the first time and tried to link it, btu I failed. We called Microsoft and had a password reset, I changed my password then forgot it again, I could have linked it as soon as I got it, but a 9 year old (1 year after I got Live) kid has very limited computer skills. So, I need help linking my Gamertag and I know I cannot be the only one in this condition.

THE END

My question is, why does bungie require a B-net user to have a gamertag to reply? If it is somehow suppost to stop spammers can't they just create a silver account? Please, change the Optimatch forum and help people with similar conditions in linking status.

I'm confused. What password are you forgetting?
Couldn't you just reset it again?

My hotmal password, the password I used to make the account, and if I reset there is no way can get to it because it sends it to the email I forgot the password to.

This was just implemented. As of today, you must have a gamertag linked to reply the Optimatch forum. Let's face it, it was a cesspool, and you should only have the right to reply to it if you have a gamertag (it current does work with Silver accounts). Otherwise, what are you doing there? You don't even have Xbox Live.

And no, I wasn't implying that towards you. Was just saying. And, err, sorry, I can't help you with gamertag linking. As this gamertag was linked to this .net passport when I created this account. I've tried to help other friends link other XBL passports to different gamertags, and they made it confusing as hell on how to do it.

That's all I got.

If you forgot your hotmail password then how do you log into Bungie.net?

If you use a different email on Bungie.net then what you have on your Gamertag then it won't matter cause you can't connect it to Bnet as you need to have the same email for both.

For spammers to make silver accounts and spam the optimatch forum they must go through the whole process of creating the silver account, making a bungie account with that email, going through the process of connecting the silver account to the newly made Bungie.net account.

It really is a lot of work even for a dedicated spammer.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

First, the reason.

It is more about forcing people to go through an additional barrier of entry to post in the forum - a way to elevate Optimatch, mark it as important. That being said, it may be changed to require Gold only tags in the future, but for now, we're just going to start with this.

This isn't a method to combat spam (it won't, IMHO, except from the little kids and fly by night spammers who aren't part of the community anyway), it is a way to mark the forum as more important than others and try and elevate the coversation.

It is so easy to make a fake silver account, how would this problem be reduced?

Have you tried select 'I forgot my password' on the email that it sends the password to? Also, I would like to suggest that you contact the customer support of the company and have them retrieve the password. After a few identity verification questions, you'll get your password.

Yes, it said I have tried that option too many times, I have not tried to recover my email in months.

Oh and you can use a different email adress. That is how I linked this silver account, (now only if I could get my own account)

I tried that, they never retrieved my password. Though they tried.

If you don't mind my asking, what email services do you take part it (As in which one does the emails you forgot passwords belong to)? Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo....etc.

Alright, took a bit of digging, but I found it. Send and email here. You'll have to scroll down a bit. Tell them about how you lost the password to your two emails and need to retrieve them. They will then ask you a few questions, then email you a new password. That is, if they are like Yahoo! or Gmail. Make sure you use an email account that you currently use.

Also, what Darth just said.
