I ask: Should there be a Tech Forum?

Many users go to the Flood to have their PC questions answered. It is somewhat ineffective. If we had a specific forum for Tech related issues, then all of us Techs would have a central place where we can help people out.

We could talk about the following topics and more:

NAT
Xbox Live Connections and Issues
RRoD
ALL PC/Laptop Questions
ALL 360 Errors and issues

Any general help with ALL software and Hardware.

This would also include Capture Cards, Photoshop and even as far as subnetting.

As said before ALL Xbox and PC questions all nicely grouped into 1 spot.

Post thoughts comments and reasons.

That, my friend is called The Maw (or the Halo 1 & 2 for PC forum, if you must...). I always go there to help people out with their tech problems.

Ya I only own halo on a 360 so I have no clue about that.

Also thats Halo 2 only. I want a forum for all topics not just halo.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Nah, it's a Video Game forum. While the suggestion is good, I just can't see a tech support forum on this kind of web site. People will ask questions, and they may or may not get their answer. If they truly need tech help, then they should be going to the manufacturer of the product, or a computer specialist website, for stuff like this. Not a video game forum.

  • 01.30.2008 7:39 PM PDT

No, I mean, people tend to go to The Maw for computer help regardless. Subjects don't even have to be about Halo 1 or 2 PC at all. I've yet to see one tech-help topic get locked there.

You say tomato; I say potato.

If you're going to shoot for a tech forum you need to include all technology. I mean anything (within reason) from OS troubleshooting to A.C and D.C. circuitry.

Seems how this is a video game forum; I think a developer forum would be fun. It would be a place to discuss all things about developing video games from graphical tips to programming help. That might make a better group though.

  • 01.30.2008 7:57 PM PDT

We already have a programming group here on BNet ^_^. But it doesn't have to be limited to only programming, does it? =]

I don't think going as far as IC would be quite necessary, though >_> But yeah, the closest thing we have hear is that little programming group we got up thar. It's seen better days, but we're working on bringing it back to life.

I do occasionally visit the MSDN forums, and the XNA forums (which is slowly replacing the MSDN forums all-together).

But we can dream, can't we?

If people have tech questions, Bungie.net is the wrong place to look for answers.

I would assume a tech forum wouldn't be associated with Bungie and it's games. I would think that a group would be a good solution. =D

Does it really matter? I've seen plenty of people get their tech questions answered here.

S3NATOR has brilliantly taken the next philosophical and theoretical step, and advanced mankind once more. For that, I'm forever grateful.

I think it would be cool to have an official "Tech forum" but this isn't really what this website is all about. I love answering tech questions in the Flood.

So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

Tech questions really should go in the Flood forum but, every once in a while you'll see tech questions pop up here. I don't think a tech forum would be a bad idea but it would really just be a way to channel spam.

  • 01.31.2008 8:27 AM PDT

In the long run: Nah. The Bungie forum is here for a reason, one which is not to be a jack of all trades. That's why we have The Flood for everything else =X

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I don't think it would be a good idea, for a few reasons. For one, this is a Bungie website and community. Problems with Marathon/Myth can go in the Underground, Halo problems in their respective forums. If anyone has a PC issue that has nothing to do with Bungie, well, they should seek out help in a more appropriate place.

Also, one reason why no one answers tech questions in the Flood is that they don't know or simply don't care. A tech forum would be useless since only people with problems would be there, and no people with answers.

Besides, this isn't exactly a technically oriented group base. Aside from the odd member here and there, no one is going to be much more help than a google search.
