So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

...I am hoping that locked threads can be filtered and not displayed in the Top Forum Topics as this would have two side effects...
Well there is one like that in the classifieds. Sound idea but at the present time it doesn't seem to be the case.

If I'm not mistaken, though.... Aren't you only able to have a certain amount of saved threads displayed at once?

I seem to recall running into this problem when I was saving map variant threads while my xbox was out for repair. Unless they've fixed it since then....

Hello.

Saved. ^_^

Lets see if it moves up at all.

I will likely be fixing the top forum topics to not display posts that show up in the moderator controlled "pinned topics" list - it is redundant to have them listed twice, and as the top forum topics has a limit to the number of items displayed, I'd rather each thread be unique.

As a test. Since it was listed in the Top Topics, it seemed redundant to have it listed twice.

Though if it falls off of the Top Topic list, I can see a reason to re-pin it.

Likewise, I think it has also been suggested to not include "stale" topics. Personally, I would suggest we add any locked topics to this list as well.

I'd suggest that as soon as you see someone saying "please save this thread!" report the %&#$!

Yes, and I also believe moving the Stickies and the Top Forum Topics over to the side opens up the forums much more. In many Group forums, and some Main, there were just so many Hot Topics and Stickies that smaller topics never even made it on the front page to be noticed, whether or not they were worthy of such. This new set up ensures that all topics are at the very least visible, so if they are worth it, they'll get it. It'll take some getting used to but, personally, I think we just streamlined the forums.

I still say good work.

Now, for more group features. :D

My RT account page.
My Grifball user page.
So if you really want to get to know me, you're welcome to add me anywhere.

I think you're on to something, Recon. Please keep updating us as to how the process is going for you.

I think I'll take it on myself, too. Each topic I post in will now get saved, and I'll see how well it works.

this is awesome. i wondered what that was all about and how a topic gets there, thanks for the info recon.

3 round bursts are always less accurate (when looking at the point of impact vs point of aim) than single shots. That is how it works with real burst fire weapons. The reason there is a burst is because it is counting on that inherent inaccuracy and spread to increase the possibility of a hit when aiming at moving targets in combat conditions.

I love this new addition.

Honestly i forgot about "saving threads" a long time ago.

This is a great addition bungie. now the "first page" of topics wont be the only ones being discussed. - LOVE IT!

Booster.

Am not. ...

You did save my thread, right?

No, seriously though, I would love for my "Saved Threads" button to be somewhere else. I feel like I kinda have to dig through my profile. It'd be nice if it was conveniently on the main forums.. Say... In the top right signed-in box? Next to "My Groups" or something.

I would use it all the time if it was one click less to access. Sometimes I use it to redirect someone to a thread, and it would be nice to just middle click (this opens a new tab in firefox) and already be there, instead of having to dig through my profile.

You are all loved beyond measure.
I, like you, am a light-sound-vibration complex that resonates with others. I have hopes and dreams and ambitions, just like you! I AM, and so are you! Yes, we are one and the same, you and I.

I honestly don't see much of a point to the save threads feature. If the thread I'm looking for is an active discussion, it will likely be on the few pages. If it's not, it's probably dead and I wouldn't resurrect it.

The only time I can see myself using it is when there's a particularly hilarious, stupid, insightful, or otherwise notable thread which wouldn't otherwise get much attention. Such threads don't really qualify as top topics, even if there may be large numbers of people saving such threads.

My first impression was that threads placed in the "Top Forum Topics" were topics that had a high post count. Now that you have cleared it up for me how it gets there, thank you.

blabbing blabber blabbity blab blab

And this is why I love Recon 54.

Because he blabs? The man is clearly insane, coming up with crazy conspiracy theories and such. The top forums topic is clearly to show the top forums.

Nothing else. >_> Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

If (let's say) there are 10,000 regular members in the Halo 3 forum and 50% of them bookmark a thread (the custom game finder thread for example). Then for someone to intentionally unseat that, they would need 5,000 alt accounts each with the other thread bookmarked. Not likely at that scale, but even if the numbers are smaller, it still works.

Even in the file forums.

Given the population on the forums, and the limited number of top topics, I wonder if the barriers to entry for a top topic will be too hard for a new thread to reach. And the likelihood of something being Saved accelerates once they are a top topic b/c of the visibility. Unless the engine is factoring in rate/acceleration of people marking the thread (saves/hour, for example) as well as raw numbers of people who have Saved the thread.

I guess having the exact algorithm public knowledge may not be the best idea in the world, but I am curious.

I'm curious to see how it works too. With the system currently being mostly unknown and very under-used, it is likely to bring up some odd results.

If/when more people know about it, understand it and use it (including pruning their saved threads) then it has a shot at working... but right now, I wouldn't even give it shake-down status, more like proof of concept.

I have a design suggestion that would make the Saved Threads more accessible. Include a link in the header that will go straight to the Saved Threads tab, just like the links that currently go to the other three tabs (Gamertag ==> Profile, Message Center==>Message Center, and My Groups==>Groups).

Secondary design suggestion (but still useful for discoverability and teaching users how to use the site), make the links in the header match the tab order/layout/names if possible. I gues the Gamertag breaks that, since it does have to stand out, but you could have the Saved Threads/Message Center/Groups links all on one line.
