Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Halo 2 is sure costing a lot of money... almost 2 thousand dollars so far.

Turn VSYNC back on, then right click Halo 2, properties and compatibility. Select " Run in 640x480 ". By the way, and you need to run it in window mode,( As I heard Vista controls it in window mode) I don't know if it might help, but give it a try.

Thanks for trying but, the lowest resolution the game will run at is 800x600, even after I specified in the shortcut I wanted it in 640x480. Also, VSYNC turned off when I changed to windowed mode.

I guess you have to run FRAPS and keep deleting your videos.

Yeah, looks like it... but I think I'm going to open up another support case with MS and KEEP it open until the issue is resolved properly!

OMFG now Fraps has stopped working in game!!! Also, I just tried the map Turf on the brand new PC and it still has issues (mouse lag/slowness worsens). Are people blind to this or am I just not buying the right PC for H2V?!

I honestly feel really bad for you, so i'll tell you my anti-mouse-lag story.

I bought Halo 2 and used Tray And Play (worst idea ever really), and started playing. I had mouse lag as well, so I tried alot of things, dimming down the graphical options and all of that. However, when I resized the resolution of the screen, there was absolutely no lag.

I can't remember much of my spec but I believe these are the most important things.
3.00 GHz of Memory
nVidia GeForce 8600 GT
2gb of RAM

Try closing some programs before playing Halo 2. It's a memory eater.

The sad part for me however is that my story did not end well (I got BSoD about 5 minutes after re-adjusting my resolution. That probably shouldn't happen to you though. :D

Thanks for sharing your story. I closed everything I could, and tried every resolution at every refresh rate but I still have laggy and/or stuttering control. :(

Is my 8800 GTX not high end enough to be affected by mouse lag? OR are you just over generalizing?

Static... Every time someone says something negative about H2V you feel the need to try and disprove it. We ALL know your experience was pixel perfect. We're idiots and you're the only one that knows what's going on... we get it. Just let them discuss it amongst themselves and feel sorry for each other, cause misery loves company.

Without seeming rude, is your CPU etc. up to it.?
I have a Logitech Gaming mouse and it works fine in H2V. I don't notice any lag in response, either in XP or Vista.
As you are aware, Vista is so hareware intensive, and then running H2V on top is a drag on most PC's, unless you have an uber gaming rig.

If Igg manages to setup a H2V gathering, we'll see how good or bad your mouse is ..... :-)

My CPU is Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.0 Ghz. I used XP Loader.exe and got no mouse lag in game, but can't play MP with that.

And yeah, playing with feet about sizes it up :(

OMG I'm so -blam!- mad about this crap. I read something about changing "max frames render ahead" for NVIDIA cards, but none of the utilities I've used (RivaTuner, Coolbits, NVTune) have allowed me to access this function. Apparently it can reduce or eliminate mouse lag. God Microsoft why are you -blam!- me around so badly? I hate you!

Don't worry, Node. Halo 2 Vista is more random then a drunk girlfriend watching a horror movie after smoking a joint and sniffing on glue. Don't get worked up over a half-assed game that runs in a half-assed OS. Here's something that might help:

Read that stuff already, but thanks guys. Turns out the woman at MS who said she was going to research the problem and get back to me simply closed the case. Nice lady. I'm on the phone again to create another case and this time I'm not letting them off the phone to "research" again.

I talked to Shrikant Khot, Microsoft technical support half an hour ago. He fiddled with my video card settings over "easy assist" and decided he would also have to get off the phone to "research". I told him before noon tomorrow is best for me to accept calls. I sure hope he's not BS'ing like the last person.

Check your nvidia control panel, and make sure it is not forcing a resolution or refresh rate.

I checked the control panel. There's no way to "un-select" a default refresh rate. Halo 2 can and has changed the resolution and refresh rate independently from those settings, though.

Tell me you didn't seriously spend that much just to play Halo 2.

Anyway, besides cranking the sensitivity to 10, there's nothing you can do. Besides, you'll adapt to it. If not, then you should be playing with that there controller.

I played with the controller for a while today. It was horrible. I died about 20 times on "Shooting Gallery". Then I played some MP and got wasted because I wasn't fast enough to grab a sniper or the Banshee. Love the weapon balance in Halo 2. I'm still not going to give up on having a good experience.

There are some features about the controller I actually like, such as the ability to walk slowly, or "sneak", and the vibration's pretty helpful too. I don't play with my speakers on very often, so it's helped me before.

Go Node! Make sure you always get the techs name, this will serve two functions. It lets the tech know that they are now accountable for the things they say and do and this is usually incentive to get them to take the problem seriously and do their best. Two it gives you ammo if you get blown off to call back and get a manager on the phone. Eventually you will get to the point where the product gets fixed, or you reach a person who has the authority to tell you "Tough -blam!-" and not have to worry about any ramifications for doing so.

Yeah, good point. I've been writing down the names. The last person, Roger Panhalkar, hung up on me instead of putting me on hold. I called back and now my case is being "escalated", and a "level 2 technician" is supposed to be phoning me on Saturday. I sure hope they find a fix so I can share it with everyone else who has this problem, too.

Technical support did not call. They're giving me the runaround.
