Im frequently reading about members not being able to access their service records here on B.net, nor will they be linked to them through those of a friends played games they were in.

What Ive noticed is that 100 % of the people whos asking why they cant find their service records have GT´s in the greyzone of whats acceptable. Its usually names that includes something related to religion, cursing, the n-word or similar more or less offensive terms.

So my question is, is this indeed the reason to why their service records arent showing up and if so what kind of filter is used? It seems like these tags are allowed on xbl and some of the words are allowed in the forums so something els must come into play when the records are being blocked. If this is the case im 100 % for it and i find it odd that these tags are allowed on XBL.

(this might be mentioned somewhere in a sticky, ToU or CoC but I havent been able to find so I cant to link to it when someone is posting the question)

From what i know, the case usually is that a lot of people have submitted "Bad Name" feedback on them, and are undergoing the process of having to change it. And sometimes the XBL system is slow about that, and can cause some conflicts.

That's all I know.

There tags may be in limbo until they change them, god I hope this stupid fad of people making stupid Gamertag names will end soon.

Agreed. I dont see the point of making an offensive tag. Its not cool and has never been.

It isn't that people reported them, it is that there is a filter that Xbox Live defined that prohibits certain gamertags from being used. Now, technically, you shouldn't be able to create tags that violate that filter, but... well, that's a long story. Anyway, tags that violate this policy won't get their stats displayed until their tags change. Xbox Live will likely eventually send force name change requests to them, but that takes a while sometimes.

So, the moral of the story is that if your stats mysteriously disappear, you probably shouldn't have chosen that "clever" gamertag involving your favorite sex joke.

Players with gamertags who violate the Xbox Live Terms of Use (swill find their stats hidden until their gamertag is changed to something less offensive. Xbox Live is slowly sending name change requests out, but they're being somewhat slow about it.

Ha ha ^^^

If I have 100 of my friends report me then can I get my name changed for free?

  • 01.31.2008 2:23 PM PDT

3 round bursts are always less accurate (when looking at the point of impact vs point of aim) than single shots. That is how it works with real burst fire weapons. The reason there is a burst is because it is counting on that inherent inaccuracy and spread to increase the possibility of a hit when aiming at moving targets in combat conditions.

So if im understanding this right the best way to get someone to change their offensive GT is to "report" them. My understanding in the past was MS didn't allow certain tags to even be created, i guess i was wrong in that assumption.

Thanks for clearing this up guys.

I didn't realize the grey zone included drug references. i was forced to change my gamertag "a hunge bongtoke" yesterday, and honestly don't see how it was offencive enough to warrent that.

Кланяються мені!

My friends alternate tag was reapersXbiatch. This filter was not applied then, as we viewed his stats frequently, last week he received a name change message. So this can't always be accurate

i'm one of the people thats blocked, but i really dont find my name offensive. a lot of ppl call me liljewfroboy in school. is it just because i have the word jew in my name? i can see that a lot of people will use it negatively, but shouldn't someone be able to unblock the names that actually arent offensive at all? i mean, i am jewish, i would just be insulting myself anyways. if i never get to see my stats because of this, i want some sort of free name change...

I think the thing is, is that MS or pretty much any service handler wouldn't know that you are jewish (this goes for anyone and their respective ethnicity), so rather than just let it slide and letting you go, they are playing it safe and making Xbox Live a better place without having anything that can be misinterpreted as ill or immature.

What one person can take as a joke, another may not.

It still violates the terms of use. Which you agreed to when you signed up.

but i think it's clear that i don't have any negative intent with my gamertag. i didn't put anything thats innapriate, profane, defamatory... etc. i just put one word that has to do with my own religion. if anyone finds a problem with it, i'm sorry. let me change it, but i'm not paying.

I just think that is kind of ironic considering the name Bungie came from a dirty joke.

I'm having this problem and now it seems obvious why. I actually didn't intend for this name to be offensive. Its just a stupid inside joke amongst friends, and as far as I'm aware I've gotten no negative feedback on it. Is there anyway expedite the name changing? I could care less about readjusting the spelling of my asinine name, I just want to see my stats online!

  • 02.08.2008 12:09 PM PDT
