Someone said that being a jerk makes you go down to legendary status; it didn't work for me.

Clearly being a jerk is encouraged.
Yeah but being you earns you mythic status you can't do anything to change that.

However, they have been shown to be VERY accurate predictors of behavior... remarkably so.
Predictors is the key word. I personally think the system still needs to be refined. I was banned because my brother was banned and we share a computer giving me a lovekly message from the soul about Alt accounts, this was back at the end of Jan. Because of this short ban I lost my Heroic Member status without having done anything wrong, the ban was reduced to one day by Recon Number 54 and yet that one day ban has kept the title stripped for just over a month. I got the title on New Years Day (before it became easier to have a member title), lost it less than a month later, how can a small ban have so much influence and not be made up with continuous good behavior a month later especially when it has become easier to become a Heroic, Legendary and mythic member (which went from 13 people to 200!)?

"But my brother did it!" is just an excuse. You should be happy Recon actually lowered your ban. As for going back to Heroic then going back to member early feb was due to a glitch where a couple of numbers were misplaced (It was in a thread awhile back) and gave practically everyone a role boost, it was fixed 1-2 weeks ago.

That would be...hard.

But some people are just so good at it.

Makes you wonder...

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character shows people who you are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

Each user has two numbers assigned to him - base_trust_rating and trust_modifier. They are calculated by examining the history of your account and weighting each data point by a certain value according to a formula that nobody knows but me. This system is entirely automatic. The moderators can affect it in as much that they hand out bans and warnings, but those are just data points that are part of the math. One of the things you get from trust ratings is member titles. They are assigned based on the "tier" of trust your account is in relative to the highest possible trust value for that day (that amount is variable, as the system is not zero sum).

People claiming to know details of the system are talking out of their ass and would do well to stop before I ban them for impersonating Bungie.net staff. Even the moderators do not have details.

Trust ratings are intended to be used as positive reinforcement for good behavior. A low trust value is not a sign of a lower member (the titles aren't ranks, they're just titles). However, they have been shown to be VERY accurate predictors of behavior... remarkably so.

Posted by: Bapabooiee
Explain the context of this said "trust". You make it sound like "trust" is a variable of some sort here.
Looks like you got this thing wrapped up... You know what you're doing don't you?

The ninjas are a very reclusive fraternity, they work in mysterious ways. I suppose they reward users based on genuine merit, rather than people who kiss up to them. Nobody has ever been rewarded for doing just what they are expected to do, only for going above and beyond the expectation.

I have reason to believe it is automated. This is one of my older accounts that I hopped onto to see what rank it was when they announced the forum ranks. My last post was months ago on this account. Needless to say, I was surprised when I found that I was a Heroic member. About 20 posts later, I was promoted to Legendary Member.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Stosh also pointed out that when you save a thread, that give the OP "trust"

Many claim to know it, but as Achronos said, they are trying to act as if they are Bungie Employees. Heck, I don't know every piece of it. But, neither do you wolf.

EDIT: He also said that people claiming to know it don't know what they are talking about. He should be the only one who knows, so your details weren't correct.

I know that i wasn't correct that's why i said that only the person who created B.net could tell you how it works and i said it was by trust because he said Mods had a count in it but they didnt know the process either so people like CG who helped the community probably did not get banned or blacklisted so that might have helped him gained trust from mods. I putted it in bold cause you guys were going in circles so it might have helped little if it did.
