Shouldn't Achronos be on his honeymoon? Why is he posting in here?

That's easy to do when your wife has an on/off switch. ;-)

(Yes, I know he already mentioned...you know what? I'm not explaining myself. So there.)

The ninjas do administer trust. Achronos told me personally.

Oh, please. No one's going to believe that Achronos told you that...

...

Heck, with all my bribes, I should be Mythic by now. Clearly that's not how it works.

What!!! You mean the Webmaster's Enrichment Scheem really works?

Thats it I am giving that cowboy gorilla suit $1,000.00. Mabey that would give me recon armor!

Ok, Achronos' explanation helped quite a bit. I still have one lingering question.

Can you only go down in this trust system? He explained you can go down by being banned or warned, etc. But how do you go up? If you do not get banned for a certain length of time do you gain trust points or something of that nature?

I lost my Legendary for replying to a spam post, so is there a way I can regain it other than being a member for another year? Say good behavior?

Mythic members are like people with tattoos. Just as soon as you become a Mythic member, you can kick anyone's ass. It really works.

I'm pretty sure good behavior will help you go back up to Legendary.
Since I joined Bungie I've been banned like 3 times, and I'm still Legendary(Temp Bans :P)
But I've been good recently so yeah.

Hmm. Odd, I have only been banned 3 times, and they were only 3 days bans for random things that I should have known better about. Oh well, I am trying to be good.

I just wanted to figure out if you could go up a certain way too. :)

Yeah I had a 3-day, a 14-day, and I think I had a 1-month. Now that I think about it I actually had another 3-day. Hmm...

Each user has two numbers assigned to him - base_trust_rating and trust_modifier. They are calculated by examining the history of your account and weighting each data point by a certain value according to a formula that nobody knows but me. This system is entirely automatic. The moderators can affect it in as much that they hand out bans and warnings, but those are just data points that are part of the math. One of the things you get from trust ratings is member titles. They are assigned based on the "tier" of trust your account is in relative to the highest possible trust value for that day (that amount is variable, as the system is not zero sum).

People claiming to know details of the system are talking out of their ass and would do well to stop before I ban them for impersonating Bungie.net staff. Even the moderators do not have details.

Trust ratings are intended to be used as positive reinforcement for good behavior. A low trust value is not a sign of a lower member (the titles aren't ranks, they're just titles). However, they have been shown to be VERY accurate predictors of behavior... remarkably so.

So wait this is a huge guess but if a user posts commonly and has good amount of trust will he go up in his title? Also is this why a user who is never on gets a new title in a year even though he rarely posts. Does it go up daily or something?

I'm really confused. I've been here since July 06 with one warning, and I'm still only a member? Maybe that warning carries more weight that I thought.

I thought I read somewhere that any ban, warning, etc. from before the member title was not entered into the trust rating. Don't quote me on that but I know I've heard someone say that.

Mine was after I think, but it was only a 3 day for replying to spam.

HEROIC MEMBER
* These members have gained a certain amount of trust throughout their Bnet life. Usually this is for the members who have been here a while, haven't received many warnings (if any) or bans (if any). There are more than likely other factors as well (but we'll never know).

I've seen people who have been here for a year less than me and are heroic. And I have only one ban.

I don't know what to tell you, the trust system's inner workings still remain a mystery to use, although Achronos has revealed a very interesting facts about it earrlier. All I can say is to just be carfeful about where you post and to think before posting. I'm sure you'll get promoted sooner if you abide by the rules and help others out.

  • 03.07.2008 11:13 PM PDT

Ironicly, I was thinking about posting this in the other active thread about the guy who lost ranks, then realized it might be considered spam and posted here instead. So obviously I do think before posting. I know the trust system is working, I'm just confused about how big a mark a small ban puts on your record.

From what I can tell, your membership simply goes up every full year you are registered as a Bungie.net member. It goes down if you get blacklisted. To further prove my theory, every Heroic member I've seen has been a registered bnet member for at least a year. Every legendary I've seen has been a member for 2+ years.

well then why did I get this new title in January when I joined in October of last year. I think posts has something to do with it as well.

Clearly being a jerk is encouraged.

I'm just stating generally. I have no doubt number of posts can get you up faster, but to people who don't post much, or not at all...it goes up yearly until Legendary. I think posts is the only way to get up to Mythic.
