I'm probably answering my own question here, BUT...
Shouldn't there be a way to post a link (say on myspace) that would take people directly to a single item in your fileshare?

I mean, if we can't actually take the file and host it elsewhere for someone to download to their 360, then shouldn't we have some way to share it when we discuss it on a website or something (I do tutorials that reference customized maps, in-game movies, etc.)

In order to do that, I've been "puiblishing" files to the forum, and using THOSE links, but that seems wasteful, considering that a lot of those films are just partial steps of a tutorial, and the maps are soley for things like going after the Troop Carrier Warthog, not an actual "game" map that anyone else would be interested in. I feel like I'm adding junk to a pile, making it harder for folks with interesting movies to get their stuff seen by others. It just seems like I'm making an unecessary mess in there. Also, when I do that.. how long do they stay in those forums? will those links go bad in a week or two, if noone comments on them in that thread (ie- they aren't bumped"?

Sometimes there's just no reason to comment, and most times it seems like folks dont WANT to comment until after they've downloaded and "used" it. After that, there's usually no real reason to go look it up and say anything about it, and rarely a reason to revisit the thread to answer comments that you don't know are there..

In any event, I THINK I understand why they don't allow direct links to your fileshare, because after awhile, most people change what's in there, which means a dead link. (which COULD driop you to that person's main fileshare, with a message stating it's no longer hosted). The thing is.. I paid for Bungie Pro, and have plenty of fileshare room.. It will probably be a LONG time before I fill all of that up with Maps.. I can transfer videos to MPG's and upload to myspace, (or store them on my system, or whatever), and any images I can rehost on myspace. So the only thing left are the maps.

Like I said.. it just seems wasteful to dump them in there when they really aren't worth bothering with unless you're already specifically looking for them, and I'm concerned about whether they stay there for a limited time or permanently (so the links don't die).

Perhaps the threads are deleted when you remove the linked file from your fileshare..? Does anyone know though? I'd hate to guess and then suddenly have dead links all over the place that I need to remake.

It would be a nice idea to have a little board or something on your myspace that links to you file share. For now all you can to is make a link on your myspace or create your own type of program that shows what your file share is.

Actually, that's the problem.
You can only link directly to your fileshare, not to a specific file ON your fileshare. When you're a Bungie Pro member you have a LOT of fileshares to scroll through, and may not have the filename remembered correctly when you reference it.

IE- "Here's a link to my fileshare, look for the mapfile for 'the pit'". (That becomes useless if you ever record anything else from the pit in the future.)

The only way to link directly to a specific file is to "Publish" the file and then link to the comments.

My concern is that I have no way of knowing how long a published file's is still going to be there.. I don't know if they eventually get erased or whatever, or if it erases as soon as it's removed from your fileshare, or??

I wish Bungie would explain the rules or code of conduct for threads. Also I really want to know if threads are timed. I really hope that if you remove stuff from the file share that the thread does not get removed. I am trying to investigate. I will reply soon. (a week or two)

Okay, it has been a week, and I STRONGLY believe that if you take something off of your fileshare, the thread is useless
