Is it legal in america to kill a burglar in self defence? You'd get a ass-load of trouble if you did it in U.K. And I don't think asking them to leave is going to work...
Dam you America you get all the good laws...
It depends on the situation. Usually you won't get in trouble.
Actually, it's likely that you would. I mean, if a burglar can accidentally cut himself on a knife in your house and win a lawsuit against you for it (true case), then I think shooting him would get you busted too.
Not that I agree with the law; any type of criminal should be shot, to keep the population of Earth down. Although I suppose that we would run out of congressmen pretty quick...
I think it's crap that he would win the case. They obviously ignore that the robber was trespassing and robbing a friggin' house.
But that law in England is retarded! You'd get in trouble for defending yourself if an ARMED ROBBER came in your house!
I blame the problem on my standard fallback, Liberals.
I mean, seriously, if the guy is in your house, has a record of violent crimes (heck, even if he just seems a little intimidiating and won't get out of your house), you oughta have every right do get him out of your house, regardless of whether you wound him or kill him. He deserves it. It's better to have shot a guy who could (and probably will) harm you than to just wait around and see what happens, and probably have the crap kicked out of you (lethally, in some cases.).
Bleh, some of our laws suck. If I were making all the laws, a criminal breaking in to someone's house would lose all his rights and be fair game to whatever devices the defendee could concoct.
Oh, yeah, I have two .22 pistols, a .22 rifle, and two 12-gauge shotguns under my bed (screw knives, guns are more intimidating and effective). I dare someone to break into my house.
