Bungie is a growing community with thousands of members. Bungie continues growing each day. Within Bungie there are many responsible members. There are also bad ones. Spammers are the "evil" on the Bungie forums. To control this issue, we have ninjas. The ninjas are in trusted with an ancient tool known as "The Banhammer". This controls the spammers. Holders of the Banhammer have great respect throughout the community. But, what happens if a ninja goes away? No, not for five minutes. Not for a day. Not for a week. But, for a month, should they have their Banhammer taken away? Being a ninja and controlling the forums takes dedication. Ninjas don't need to be on 24/7. Once a day or just opening Bungie.net while they're on the computers is fine. Five moderators(out of 25) have not been on for a month. That's like taking away 1/5 of your army. My proposal is to take away their positions as ninjas. Give them another title for their hard work before they went inactive, to remember them by. Then, either hire 1-5 new ninjas or keep it with 20. Either way it's an improvement. Having moderators that haven't been on for a moth just looks, well, bad. Please think about this Webteam if you ever even look in here. Thanks.

No.

First of all, you guys don't know why they are offline. hell, I usually take a five week vacaction each year. It's my one vacation and I inted to enjoy it. In those five weeks I don't have access to the internet, because I'm somewhere in a cave, on top a mountain or just getting drunk. My point is, I'm not online, at all. So I can't be a moderator because I went on vacation?

Two, moderating isn't about how often you are online, it's about being trusted enough.

Welcome to the internet. A place that, unless you diss Mass Effect and get your book spammed with bad reviews on Amazon or getting a video of you enacting your favorite scene from Star Wars, won't hurt you.
As long as you have the wonderful ability to just "ignore" or just hit the spam report button, things will get solved eventually.
Already there are times when moderators are in each other's way (and then i don't mean the line in front of Stosh's mom's bedroom), but on the forum. Mods try to ban the same person at the same time and the banhammer starts to act funny.

You can cry all you want about having more moderators or having the inactive ones removed, but it won't solve the core issue.
Not too long ago I asked for new mods as well. Because I felt there weren't enough? Not really, I can see us having one extra mod, perhaps even two. But the reason I asked for more was because I was about to quit as a moderator myself, and thought it would perhaps help if we had a replacement, especially since I don't see anything too wrong with adding maybe an extra one.

But for removing a moderator because they are inactive? No, that's not your call, you don't know why they are inactive.

Just because Ninja's don't post doesn't mean they're not on.
Except for Maka, he rarely even visits Bungie.

I am not saying that they haven't been on for five years but i am saying that they should realy take the evert to keep the forums clean because every once in awhile i find a "I can has recon?" thread in the Halo 3 forums and everybody spams the heck out of that topic.

Oh man dude you just jinxed yourself, you never ask to be a mod you have to be chosen. Anyways I don't think that removing the old mods is a good idea. I'm sure there is a good reason why their accounts have been inactive for so long. Also getting new mods may not be necessary since most of the rule breaking posts appear in the Halo 3 forums so the mods don't have to jump around a lot and we now have the nifty spam button so we can help the mods do their job in making B.net a better place for us users.

Leaving inactive moderators makes Bungie look unprofessional.

I am...whimsical today.

I don't see why inactivity should mean removal. They have shown to be trusted members of the community, with the responsibility needed to warrant the title of Forum Ninja, and all the power that entails. That they are inactive does not mean they are less deserving of that power, simply that they do not use it. There is no limit to the number of Forum Ninjas, so they are not really 'dead weight', only 'dead'. We also do not know how active they are with the Bungie Community outside the main forums.

Also the addition of the Spam button gives much more control to all members with regard to policing the forums.

Yes because people totally noticed the inactive ones. bravo.
Especially since this is an comunity orientated website, rather than a business dedicated dotcom one.
If we got paid for this, that would actually mean something.

I've talked with 2-3 other moderators and they thought it was a good idea. I know it isn't my call. I know you don't get paid. But, there are people who would be on 24/7 if they were moderators. Now, this is where you make your response about how people are too untrustworthy for moderator position. Then I give my reasons. Let's save two posts and skip forward.

EDIT: Dam- He edited his post.

I know a Ninja should do their job but realy a month is a very unneeded vacation i would like it if it was like a 3-6 week vacation but a month is way to long.

  • 02.03.2008 3:41 PM PDT

It doesn't matter if they're inactive. I think Achronos, the Web Team, and the Moderation Team would know if they needed more. I think they're doing a fine job with the amount of ninjas (active or not) that they have now. Even though I don't see everything be taken care of immediately, I take solace in the fact that it will be taken care of eventually.

I am a Floodian

If you had to remove one member because of inactivity, I would only remove Maka, and he is a special case last time I heard.

Your remove moderators because they have become incompetent.

Removing any of those people from their moderator status would make me come to america and blow up bungie studios.

Seriously. they've all got their reasons for being inactive and they deserve the luxury of knowing they're still trusted if they ever deserve to come back.

Also, this

I've talked with 2-3 other moderators and they thought it was a good idea.
Is a barefaced lie. Here's a hint, free of charge. Lying gets you nowhere.

Maka is in college or something without the abbility to acces this site (Last I heard anyway)
Jim's Computer is busted
Jeremiah isn't really a mod-mod he's just a guy with mod powers 'cause he was a contractor for Bungie.

I know many of those mods, and would hate to see those responsible people have such a privilege removed just because they haven't logged on for a while. I'm pretty sure Jim doesn't even have access to the internet at this point, so don't blame him. Also, Jeremiah isn't a full-time moderator like others. I'm pretty sure he's an actual Bungie employee, who happens to have moderator status on this site.
