You do realize your dates are the last time they posted right? If you go to their actual profiles they are active.

Anyways, Jeremiah is beyond just a moderator so don't expect him to go anywhere. GameJunkieJim's having internet troubles from what I heard, and the others are "sleeping." They are active, meaning they do moderate the forums but don't expect them to post on the forums often.

You don't know what goes on in the HFCS scene.

Yep. Most moderators don't even post all that often. They do it silently.

Jim doesn't have internet, I think Goweb and Makaveli are both off at college, and Jeremiah doesn't work at Bungie anymore and is doing his own thing.

They're not doing anything wrong. Whenever they do comeback, if ever, they'll have their powers waiting for them. This is a silly idea.

Well, with the information I've found out, there really is a reason to be disscussing this. You guys should post it somewhere though. And, whoever said I didn't talk with moderators: Ask evilcam.

I never said you didnt talk with moderators on the subject, i doubted whether they supported it.

Any one of the moderators will have given the same response i gave; in short "GTFO."

...

Moderating the forums is a volunteer thing. They do it out of the goodness of their heart. Life gets in the way sometimes and people have to deal with all sorts of things that might, you know, be more important than what some 13 year old kid thinks about a -blam!- video game.

Let's get some perspective here. What harm are they doing by being active? The moderators here aren't supposed to "look professional", because they aren't professionals: they are volunteers. Secondly, it's a community-oriented site, and so there's no reason to look professional.

You're just being a knob for the sake of it. Sorry, that's the nuts and bolts of it. This thread really only exists to draw attention to COB Mack.

They are volunteers, yes. But, what does volunteer mean?

-a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.

Now, they are volunteers from your point but they are paid some how. Whether it be in information or in Recon.

And don't bring my age into the discussion. It shows your ignorance.

Also, if I wanted attention, I would go into the Halo Section and post how I will sell Recon for 10$ a piece.

HOLD IT right there. Reiginko used to BE a moderator.

You don't realise that the inactive moderators didn't get Recon, and they probably didn't get the free maps. If they're not on the site, they don't get information either. They're not getting 'paid', as you call it. These perquisites are here to reward the active moderators, and it has.

Which moderators agreed with you on this? I doubt any of them did. We're not going to get rid of moderators from the list just because their circumstances changed. Sigma was there right up until his account was auto-deleted due to inactivity, and that's how the others will leave too.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

"In Perfect, every moderator would be on 24/7, but for everywhere else, there's Walgreen's."

What do you want? Seriously? Acrhonos gives you the Report as Spam button. He gives you member titles. He gives you dozens of unnecessary but useful tools and hundreds of hours of online time fixing and perfecting these things.

Bungie.net isn't perfect, nor will it ever be. You've enough resources and babysitters to make your stay comfortable, so I suggest you brush your teeth, tuck yourself in, turn out the lights, say your prayers, and enjoy Bungie.net like the blissful dream it is.

So long as Stosh doesn't pay you a midnight visit, that is.

I am not saying that they haven't been on for five years but i am saying that they should realy take the evert to keep the forums clean because every once in awhile i find a "I can has recon?" thread in the Halo 3 forums and everybody spams the heck out of that topic.

Yes, believe it or not, there are some times when there are no moderators on because we have lives outside of Bungie.net. Having more mods would NOT help that at all; I'm serious, it would just get overcrowded and ten mods would lock a thread at the same time and oooh lordy. It happens already, though on a smaller scale.

Just because there's sometimes when members see a thread before we do (in the Halo 3 Forum no less, the fastest moving on the site), doesn't mean we need more moderators.

What an abysmal idea, "You were trusted enough to be elevated to a moderator, but since you don't show up often anymore we're gonna take away your powers, even though you're still the same trustworthy individual you've always been."

I wouldn't say we needed more moderators, but I would say this place could use fewer idiots.

Please. Carry on.

Wait, what? Isn't that what Bungie forums are for? Most people would think so.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

There's no reason to remove their power as moderators. The only reason one should be removed is if they are not competent enough to moderate anymore, or if they quit by their own discretion. And, once again, you actually don't know how active they are.

Whereas I support the idea of more moderators, I respect the reason why we don't have any, and, quite frankly, I think it's because Achronos doesn't trust anyone enough. But, what with new member titles, I think that's beginning to change. Anyway, the reasons for not having moderators are acceptable, as are the reasons to have more moderators. So, it really just comes down to the Webteam's decision, of which we really have very little input.

  • 02.03.2008 5:05 PM PDT

There is no point adding moderators. If moderators where needed dont you the it would have happened already?? because it would be a bit obvious to everyone that moderators where needed. and stripping mods of power because they ain on is stupid. then you would need more moderators to replace the ones you just stripped of power.

Bungie is a growing community with thousands of members. Bungie continues growing each day. Within Bungie there are many responsible members. There are also bad ones. Spammers are the "evil" on the Bungie forums. To control this issue, we have ninjas. The ninjas are in trusted with an ancient tool known as "The Banhammer". This controls the spammers. Holders of the Banhammer have great respect throughout the community. But, what happens if a ninja goes away? No, not for five minutes. Not for a day. Not for a week. But, for a month, should they have their Banhammer taken away? Being a ninja and controlling the forums takes dedication. Ninjas don't need to be on 24/7. Once a day or just opening Bungie.net while they're on the computers is fine. Five moderators(out of 25) have not been on for a month. That's like taking away 1/5 of your army. My proposal is to take away their positions as ninjas. Give them another title for their hard work before they went inactive, to remember them by. Then, either hire 1-5 new ninjas or keep it with 20. Either way it's an improvement. Having moderators that haven't been on for a moth just looks, well, bad. Please think about this Webteam if you ever even look in here. Thanks.

well i agree and disagree i do think MODs should always be working but you have to remember that being a MOD is a lot of work and they should not have to have a constant job. They shouldnt take huge breaks but still they should be aloud a bit of leway dont you think ???

  • 02.03.2008 5:16 PM PDT

The mods are fine as is. If you see a problem, report it. Simple.

If you're unclear with the reporting feature, PM a mod and they will answer your question.

These "we need more mods" threads always pop up, and it's always a cry for attention. Now's the time to put your money where your mouth is.

Jim, MakaVeli, and Jeremiah's names on some list don't change your responsibility as a member to do what you can.

No.

First of all, you guys don't know why they are offline. hell, I usually take a five week vacaction each year. It's my one vacation and I inted to enjoy it. In those five weeks I don't have access to the internet, because I'm somewhere in a cave, on top a mountain or just getting drunk. My point is, I'm not online, at all. So I can't be a moderator because I went on vacation?

Two, moderating isn't about how often you are online, it's about being trusted enough.

Welcome to the internet. A place that, unless you diss Mass Effect and get your book spammed with bad reviews on Amazon or getting a video of you enacting your favorite scene from Star Wars, won't hurt you.
As long as you have the wonderful ability to just "ignore" or just hit the spam report button, things will get solved eventually.
Already there are times when moderators are in each other's way (and then i don't mean the line in front of Stosh's mom's bedroom), but on the forum. Mods try to ban the same person at the same time and the banhammer starts to act funny.

You can cry all you want about having more moderators or having the inactive ones removed, but it won't solve the core issue.
Not too long ago I asked for new mods as well. Because I felt there weren't enough? Not really, I can see us having one extra mod, perhaps even two. But the reason I asked for more was because I was about to quit as a moderator myself, and thought it would perhaps help if we had a replacement, especially since I don't see anything too wrong with adding maybe an extra one.

But for removing a moderator because they are inactive? No, that's not your call, you don't know why they are inactive.

Small question, If a moderator dropped out of all activity and contact for a year or so, but not to the point of being auto-deleted, could they return and take up their position as though they were not absent ?

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Signing off a post with "carry on"? Something about that seems familiar, no doubt a coincidences in the most likely event. But I can always imagine Recon picked up on something from me.

Anycase, we don't need more mods or less for that matter. We have just the right amount of ninja prowling the community. And if this hasn't been stressed enough it damn well should be. As it has been said this IS a community. Which means not just moderators should be responsible for up keep of these forums-- all members should be held responsible for the on goings with these here walls.

You see spam? Report it.

Someone posting a topic in a wrong forum? Politely correct them and send them in the right direction.

If you disagree with a Ninja's decision? File a complaint with his superior. Not saying that you'll win, but if case is geniune then you'll most-likely have a shot.

There are many, many other things you can be doing as well. Hell go out and get some sunshine, it'll actually make you happier and less-likely to start crap.

Now I'm going back to work, I simply felt the need to shove my two cents in somewhere.

Be nice and carry on.

And yes, I do say that often.

As I said in the beginning of my post, that IS what the forums are for.

And I did say "carry on".

Are you looking for disagreement or conflict? Because I have none to offer.

Just an observation that this discussion is about something that it should not (and likely will not) effect directly. But it is a perfectly fine topic for discussion, I am simply warning of the danger of overestimating its import.
