So.

Can I ask why a dear member of mine has ranked up to a Heroic member while being ON a ban?
The potential reasoning follows the same logic as above. If the current ban is not very severe, and an older, more severe ban has become too old and dropped out of consideration by the trust rating system, then the user will appear to gain a member title even while being punished.

I've been a plain member forever. What is going on here?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

The ban is permanent, Foman. This makes no sense. Achronos' system is "RETARTED"

A permanent ban, in my opinion, needs no weight. A member will never recover from it, so why bother negating some positive effect, or continuing any negative ones, if that profile's rank wouldn't ever be considered again?

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

That would be why, then. Even if a permanent ban affected trust rating (which it need not do), the user would still be accruing points, and would have no more possible setbacks, since they are banned and can not be punished further. So, all accounts with a permanent ban will rank up if they stay around.

If I may quote Achronos from the 1st page.

The amount of that influence and the length of it are directly proportional to the severity (length) of the ban.

Technically, a perma-ban should give the ultimate reduction in trust, since it's length is the longest out of the possible. It would only make sense that a user would not rank up once he or she recieved recieved a perma-ban, seeing as they have proven that they cannot be trusted at all, and have had to be removed from the community.

An honest question here -- how is it possible to determine the member title of a member who is currently banned? I see no way to do it except by looking at forum posts, which, of course, disappear when a member is banned.

I think private messages show member titles.

EDIT: Yup they do.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

As I suspected. Most of his bans are spaced out a good month or two from each other. And his most recent one was just a quick 3 day ban... a month ago. It is not surprising that the negative influence from such bans has worn off.

I'd say the system is working fairly well - getting in trouble isn't the end of the world if you right the ship and stop being a problem.

Again, who are you talking about? A change was recently made that while allowing for more mythic and legendary members also made it so currently banned users get a gigantic (almost infinite) negative influence to their trust that lasts until they are no longer banned. If you know of a user where they have a title and are currently banned (by a day - remember the trust ratings only update once a day), then please report it, that's a bug.

Guess Bungie felt bad for him and gave him a pity promotion. Just kidding. Anyways, that is a bit strange.

Achronos said that the trust is calculated once a day. I don't know what that time is but give it 24 hours and if your title is the same then that is probably what it'll stay at unless they make some further adjustments.

well what the hell i ranked down!

Achronos was playing around with the ranks today. I think he adjusted the weightings on certain factors, allowing more people to be Heroic and Legendary. Appaently you were affected negatively by this.
