It'd be over-kill for the Server, it would mean thousands upon thousands (more) Database queries each Day. While I'm sure Bungie.net is extremely well equipped (as far as the Servers go), I don't think they need to add more strain to the Server(s) for something such as this.

I've never seen anyone suggest it before, so props for originality, but it wouldn't really be that useful.

Yes, definitely not worth it.

Nah, I don't think I'd like something like that. Usually I'll check back on a thread that I've responded to, so I can see if anybody's got something to address to me personally.

Also, you'd probably be getting swamped with notifications after a while -- if your post gets quoted by everyone and their mom because it contributed something special to the discussion, you may end up being notified a bunch of times for people quoting just that single post.

I personally don't think that it's worth it -- if you want to keep track of a thread to see whether anyone has replied directly to you, then you can always save the thread.

Exactly. I would've just sent you a pm by quoting you just now.

Some people quote not even making a point about what they quoted, it's just for the hell of it (at least it seems). It'd just have to give a user the ability to choose that option. Then there's the topic of what it'd do to the servers. I just don't think the pros outweigh the cons here.

I have what I like to call "quote paranoia syndrome," where I have to often times go back and check all of my posts to see if anyone has quoted me - just so I can read what they have to say about my opinion. Something like that would be helpful.
However, I also think that it isn't really necessary. Quotes happen ALL of the time, and thats just more needless work for the site to be doing.

Overall, I don't think its really needed.

I am a Floodian

I'll just go back and look at the thread.

  • 02.04.2008 3:04 PM PDT

Maybe as an option. I like to know when someone notices what I say. But others like Recon and his inbox don't need to be notified because they get quoted all the time, so they could turn the option off.

Generally, I'd say no, but I'll admit that it's quite annoying to discover on your own, after the topic was locked, that someone quoted you and insulted your parents' use of safety 9 months prior to your birth.

  • 02.04.2008 4:52 PM PDT

Hello :)

No I don't think it would harm the servers because Xbox.com does this. Instead of informing you in your inbox they send you an E-mail when your topic which lightens the load on servers. Since quoting happens less often then replies I think this could work.

Bungie Favs 1/11/08, No-Scope Ghost!

that is a good idea to have an "on off" swich because i sometimes go to theads to find someone quoted me and i find it interesting what they have to say. But alot of the times i just say somthing and never go back not knowing of someone quoted me or not

  • 02.04.2008 6:33 PM PDT

I would add my voice to the 'no' side.
If you are the type of person who often has something quoteworthy to say then you will be spammed to oblivion, therefore you don't need to see what you already know. If you are the type of person who has nothing quoteworthy to say then you will be depressed by the fact that you have nothing to say which interests people enough for them to quote you..

Ehh, I used to have a sig, then I stopped posting here for a long time and it sorta outdated itself, so know I'm stuck with this till I actually start posting again and comeup with something interesting to say.

I like the idea, but I'm not sure how it could be implemented, given that anyone can pretend to quote you by simpy putting

without acutally quoting what you said.

I'LL F * C K I N G KILL U

Come on why go through all the trouble to turn a switch on and off when you could just go back to the forum and check who quoted you.

...Rather than switch to you're inbox and see if someone quoted you saying "I agree.". Lets get serious here. The majority of you are lazy and I'm definintly one of them. :)
