"What's on your mind?"
So, I have to ask about the ugly Poll Format that came with "New Hotness 2" or whatever it was. The fact I see the forums got another update, I'm beginning to believe it wasn't an accident. -_-

"What are you on about?"
What I'm talking about is, the poll displays. The poll question displays in place of subject, in the forums.

Poll [X votes]: Favorite Type of Movie? | X replies
Instead of...
Movie Opinions | X replies

"So... Why?"
In my opinion, subject should be displayed in the forums, and poll question is the contents you find inside. People are less likely to ignore a poll question than a subject.

The subject is what alerts the user what they're getting into, and directs them what the topic is on hand. While a poll can provide helpful information to the conversation or just eye candy, the information is linear. Discussing on it's own may not be enough for what the topic calls for For example... The topic is about what you like and dislike in movies in general, the poll grabs only the information of which movie types are more popular, the discusion isn't linear.

"Compromise?"
Already thought of that... What I had in mind, is display both... Subject on top with replies and below it with a smaller text, or for the most part a different text format.

i.e.
Movie Opinions | X replies
Poll: Favorite Type of Movie? | X Votes

"Anything else?
Actually, there is. For those who wish only to vote, expanding upon the "compromise," I have an additional/optional idea. The idea I have in mind, is have it so when the user hovers their mouse over the poll question, it'll bring up a tooltip box with poll option and results if called for or already voted. Alternatively, a pulldown box could work...

i.e.
Normal:
Movie Opinions | X replies
Poll: Favorite Type of Movie? | X Votes

Mouse-over:
Movie Opinions | X replies
Poll: Favorite Type,.of Movie? | X Votes
                                 ' \`
              |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯|
             |<option 1>             X%|
             |<option 2>             Y%|
             |<option 3>             Z%|
             |                                      |
             |    Vote        Results    |

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Personally, I like it like this. There are the same amount of characters available for the title. Also, the method at hand reduces 'Bait 'n' Switch' threads, which used to be rather frequent.

As for the idea you pitched, it sounds good, but is rather unneeded. Polls can go either way, linear, or an actual discussion about the poll. Both types occur rather frequently, and this change wouldn't change that. People are still able to post an opinion if they wish, and people are still able to vote if they wish; as well as do both or neither. Basically, in my opinion, I don't exactly see a need for it. Since it would just, really, make the forums a bit more 'flashier'.
