Subject: Could the forums Inlcude a spell check?

I think its demand is so high that it is not even a question. Every time I see some eight year old miss spell master cheif I lose all respect of what they are saying. Also I would want to be want to be sure that what I say does not make me sound like an eight year old.

I doubt it would make much difference. Regardless though, just use Firefox, it has it's own built in spell checker.

I say I doubt it because I'm sure plenty of users use firefox and just ignore the red lines under words they misspelled.

Not really necessary, you can always check your spelling and grammar before submitting a post. It is pretty much your obligation.

That may be true but would you like to see somthing similar to words text modifiers, things like differnt font and so on.

I use Safari and I have it, too. :)

I heart FireFox. And you can too!

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

For me, whenever a spell checker automatically pops up, I immediately hit the "cancel" button and just send whatever it is I am typing.

With the fast pace of some of the forums here, I have the distinct premonition that this feature would raise complaints and/or be largely ignored in the same way that I do to other spell checkers.

But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Hmm... you use crappy spell checkers. :/

I think that something like what Firefox uses would be pretty good. All it does it underline in red the words that it thinks you have misspelled. Completely unobtrusive, but good for letting you know that something needs a second look.

On the other hand, I think people underestimate how difficult it would be to implement a spellchecker, especially given the fact that at least half of all members would probably just ignore it completely. It would be quite a bit of work, unless they just used one that is already made. And that really isn't Achronos' style, from what I've seen. It wouldn't be such a big deal, but like others have said, I really doubt many people would use it or care.

So, in short.... just download Firefox. :P It doesn't solve the problem of others' misspellings, but in all honestly, nothing really would.

It would be really annoying for a spell checker to keep bugging me about my spelling of words like "flavour" and "honour"

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

Inventor of the Bombstache avatar!

That could be very helpful, recently, someone miss-named the tittle of their thread. I went to it thinking that they were punching people in a certain respiratory organ, when he meant to type the word "lunge".

Spell checking dose actually work for me; any time I miss-spell a word my mac automatically gives it those tiny little red dots underline thing. Then I just press the command, shift, and semicolon keys to bring up a little screen with the word corrector.

The best spell checker in the world, however, still can't beat a good proofread. :)

Like it has been said before: Firefox and I believe Safari have spell checkers already. It's up to you though if you want to correct your spelling or not. Personally, I like to have neat grammar and spelling. Doing so makes communication with others on the forums that much easier.

Nah without the spellcheck people notice when you make spelling errors and comment on it. You realise, edit your post to avoid embarassment if applicable and don't make the mistake again or from experience use your common sense and get a menu bar spell checker. That or you use firefox (or safari)

So I think Jun's a master chef, because he takes off his helmet and your like whoa, I think he's a chef.

So to shorten this up, Jun is master chef.

+ Tip: Use a spell checker on your posts. A great (and free) spell checker is ieSpell.

A bungie.net built in checker would be a waste of resources I am afraid. The ones that are being complained about now, and would need to use it, would not do so. Built in Browser checkers work fine IMO.

So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

The have the Google toolbar on my I.E. and it has a spellcheck button on it.

Just used it and as it turns out you misspelled "include" in the subject heading and spellcheck is one word.

Twitter | Nothing

It would probably just annoy most people. But there are plenty of ways to check your posts if you want to make sure that they are written correctly. Theres been a few links in this thread and the forum guide has one suggested.

Personally it would probably annoy me, because it would keep telling me to spell things like colour as color just like Firefox is doing now, as most users on this site are American.
