Go here for g-card info
Yes, much depends on the slot. Most computers have an agp slot, even older ones. Just because you have a PCI card doesn't mean you can't get an agp card. Agp slots in your computer are offset and brown with a locking tab, compared to PCI slots which are white with no tab and are closer to the case I/O backing plate. Basically AGP is newer, and much faster, and supports a slew of newer cards. PCI...very few cards to choose from, as it's pitifully slow. If you can't open your pc or are just afraid to do anything wrong, just take it to CompUSA and ask them if you have a PCI or AGP slot (make them open it...haha, they can't tell unless they do, otherwise they're just guessing).
A nice card will cost you $130. I recommend the 9600XT. Depending upon your computer specs and what slot you have, as well as your budget, I can give you some options. Tell me your processor, it's speed, RAM size, graphics card name, etc.
