WOW!!! thats alot of scratch for something that may not work on my Intel Mac...

A few years ago Apple decided to stop using RISC chips in support of the true multi-processing of an CISC chip.

But in doing so caused a major upheaval from the development community. By switching chips, it required old applications to run in Rosetta mode. While Rosetta would work for most applications, some of the more memory intensive application wold not run.

The main issue is with endians.

Why can I not get the game from the distributor, when advertised I can do so?

I am just hoping that someone somewhere is creating a Universal Binary version of Halo:CE.

HOLY SHEET that's a pretty penny for Halo Mac! Why haven't I sold my copy?! That's more than I got for my xbox and games!

Back on topic though there is a universal binary for Halo. I am pretty sure that is what is sold in stores these days (if it is indeed still sold); when the universal version first came out it was offered as a $5 download for people who already owned the PPC version.

Dunno where you'll get it on the cheap though. Macsoft seems to have stopped selling it for some reason. Amazon has it starting at US$100! That's insane! I bought it new in 2005 for AU$100!

In conclusion, this is a ridiculous situation. I would recommend not buying it because it's really just extortion.

EDIT: the game has been officially discontinued: link.

What is the story with this? Has MacSoft dropped the ball? I was going to purchase the game, but I ran into an issue.

My adventure started here. I found the link to the MacSoft site.

So, I decided to click on the 'Buy Now!' link. So I scrolled down the list to find my pot of gold. Yet no love.

Halo:CE was no where to be purchased.

What's the deal? Has Halo:CE not yet been updated to be a universal binary? Is there a plan for a UB version of Halo:CE?

Is MacSoft trying to shaft you on updating cost?

Who do I have to talk with to get MacSoft business from Bungie?

If anyone knows where I can get a UB version of Halo:CE please let me know. PM please.

Sigh. You can't buy Halo Custom Edition. You need to buy Halo Mac. But your luck is out. There's no such thing as Halo Custom Edition For the Mac.

Hello! Star Wars FTW. Also, join the MAW group. Please?

It'd be sweet if old games started becoming collectors items.

yes halo 1 was made for mac just buy the $20 thing! it was made for xbox, mac, and pc, and u can play with poeple from pc, it's all fine!

  • 02.11.2008 6:54 PM PDT

No. Don't buy "the $20 thing". That is the PC version. If you have a Mac you need a copy of the Macintosh port that was published by Macsoft and developed by Bold (as opposed to Gearbox who did the PC version).

I might also point out that the PPC version runs very well under Rosetta unless you have a Macbook or something. In which case games are not for you. It is quite an old game now and Rosetta's emulation is very smooth.

No, but all this random spammage from you sure should help.

It appears that while the ebay stores are still >$100, many individual sellers have a far more reasonable price now...
