Sorry but that is dumb. MC is no stealth person. I can imagine some stealth but that would really almost ruin the game for me. I don't want this to be RS3.

In Halo 1, its fun sneaking around and trying to use the least amout of rounds possible. In online games it is fun to sneak up and pop somebody in the back of the head and then watching everyone wonder where it came from. So in conclusion, I think silent pistols would rock.

The pistol isn't low calibre, it is 9.5mm calibre- bigger than allmost any repeating pistol now currently in use.

Anyway, I think silenced pistols, smg's, and sniper rifles would be great.

I used the wrong word. I can't remember the exact wording of the thing I read.. so I'll just say low velocity, then. Also, I believe the pistol is 12.7mm. But that's the current Halo pistol.. not whatever the new one will be. -10mm and .45 pistols are extremely common, both are bigger than 9.5mm.

Silenced sniper rifles would be pushing it. The bullet needs to be subsonic to actually validate the silencer.. in which case the bullet is very weak. It certainly wouldn't be the APFSDS the current sniper rifle uses.

Eh.. to the people saying Halo is not a stealth game. I agree with you.. but only in part. Halo does have a certain style of play where stealth has little value.. but.. adding in the option of stealth for a situation where you can do it.. IF YOU WANT TO.. adds to replay value a lot. I don't really like the idea of situations where you always have to be stealthy because there's just too many enemies to fight.. but, say, if you want to save your ammo for later, it's the better option. Basically.. the option to do things never hurt anybody. Like the people saying "I don't want bots in Halo 2 MP.. so you shouldn't be able to have them either!" Few as they are.. I really don't understand that. If you don't want to put on a silencer.. don't.

I agree 110% It's a war game, not splinter cell. The only way I could see that being of any use would be if you stepped into a room full of sleeping grunts and you needed target practice.

Oh Littlefossie and silverfalcon, I can't wait to find you guys online and wipe you out from via surprise attack.

Stealth wins. It always does. Whether it's a shotgun round to the back of the head or if you're using a silenced weapon. If you know when to use which weapon. You win.

Alright, how about they have like a wepon menu when you press start, like where you can slightly modify weapons or somethintg like you could chose to put a silencer on/off(if you find a silencer, mabey they would be quite rare) whatever i dont know

That's kind of the point. It stops people from spending a whole multiplayer game hiding in a hole like cowards finishing off people fighting in a seperate battle. It shows them where you are but doesn't mean they can kill you from there. It's excellent play balancing on the part of Bungie.
Now, this is not directed at you, so don't take offense, please. Getting rid of a smartly thought out feature to cater to the whims of a few, but loud, complaining people has ruined many a good game. I'd hate to see it happen to Halo 2.

Yep, people who ransack a target are more likely to get killed or severly injured than someone who is quiet and patient.

BTW, using a silencer on the old pistol would be redundant considering the gun fires explosive tipped rounds, which they didnt hear the firing action they would probably hear the exploding shot. Unless in the future, they have mastered making silent explosions. As for a pistol that fires regular hollow tipped rounds, the use of a silencer is appropriate, but without explosive tipps is will take more shots to kill a target.

That's untrue but only in the most technical sense. Explosive rounds are actually less penetrating then traditional full metal jacket. They bullet breaks up to create smaller fragments causing more trauma and more damage to soft targets like flesh. On harder targets the smaller pieces of shrapnel have almost no penetrating capacity. If the Chief is using an advanced suit of armour he shouldn't be worried about explosive bullets.

Thanks Dreaden, but usually when i chime in with a coment Im usually talking about the campaign mode rather than multiplayer. When shooting at an Elite with an overshield, the explosive tipped rounds deplete the shield faster than average ammunition. Now if you use high explosive tipped armor piercing rounds similar to the bullets used in the M41 pulse rifle from Aliens, you can depleted the overshiedl, then break through there armor and the round will detonate underneath the targets armor. Explosive rounds are exatly ideal for targets that have acid for blood, but they sure work for getting rid of overshields.

BTW, what kind of firearms do you have in your collection?

that absolutely made no sense... Its called REALISM! A silenced pistol would be perfect for handling Grunts while they are sleeping

None, Canadians aren't all that fond of shooting, at least not in the metropolis' where most of them live. The others I hang out with think I'm something of a "psycho freak" because I can identify any gun that we've ever seen in any movie. (Well, except for that one awesome little palm sized gun that Steven Segal's character was fooling around with in the beginning of "Marked for Death".

I know my firearms and ammunition types from research, simulating their performance in numerical systems for role playing games.

Now, rounds that explode after penetrating armour I've only seen in science fiction. That's entirely different then a simple explosive tip.

Right, forgot about that. I can understand considering aa article in McCleans that estimated the Canadian army will almost be none existant in 20 years. Bummer. My friends think I'm an odd one due to my nack for spotting certain firearms, but thats partly due to my location in pinko-town USA(Marin county, yes the home of John Walker Lynn). I remember that little palm gun he had in Marked for Death.

BTW, Flames shoulda won.

*grins* It's almost non-existant now. Politicians mismanage the Canadian military horribly and depend on the United States for protection but are too proud to admit it.

The Canadian government at one point almost purchased a diesel submarine from Russia... can you believe it, a DIESEL submarine. What a crock. They also possess a good number of.. "okay" tanks but they can't use them overseas because the military has no way to get them out of the country.

It's a major bollux.

Admittedly, I also think gun laws in the United States are a bit too liberal. The ability to bear arms should be a privalege, not a right. I've had a friend cut himself on a Katana because he didn't know how to respect its nature. The thought of him playing with a gun is just Darwin in action.

Thats great. The other crack I heard from my cousin in Vancouver is that the mall in Edmonton has more submarines than the Canadian Navy.

Anyway, I dont know if anybody else has noticed this, but doesnt the front of the SMG look like complete take-off of the HK MP-7 PDW (personal defense weapon) ?

Definitely, though if you've noticed, in recent years most firearms look like any other of their given type. When I looked at it, my first thought was that it had a front handle much like the Steyr TMP, my favorite gun at the time.

Now, if only Halo2 has a SAWS weapon. Then I'd be fulfilled.

well, the pistol makes a good medium ranged weapon and silencers tend to make a weapon less accurate. So maybe it should be optional.

How about a compressed gas driven harpoon style weapon for a silent kill. It would be single shot, slow to reload and would ground the shield's energy as it penetrated making it possible to do one shot kills on elites.

Of course, something like this could throw off MP so it would be SP only.

Eh.. permanently silenced.. maybe. Depends on the kind of pistol they'll be implimenting. I'd rather have it as an option. I do remember reading somewhere a while back that they were thinking about putting silencers as an option for the low calibre weapons.. ie the pistol and the smg. I'm really interested in what kind of "tools" they'll be giving you in Halo 2. Nightvision would be cool.. seems stupid to shoot out the lights then use a light to find your way around. Not very stealthy.
As for completely silent.. eh.. half the noise silenced guns make is the mechanics inside of them. Ever fired a gun with no round in it? It's REALLY loud. The only way to make a gun truely silent would firstly be to have a really good silencer.. and secondly make it single shot. The British made what is still even now probably the best silenced weapon, in WW2.. a single shot silenced pistol.

The pistol isn't low calibre, it is 9.5mm calibre- bigger than allmost any repeating pistol now currently in use.

Anyway, I think silenced pistols, smg's, and sniper rifles would be great.

um... 9.5mm? that is very low caliber. unless its a hollow point (its not) then all its gonna do its make a 9.5mm hole. and where did you get this info about it being a 9.5 mm anyways?
