That's all I was hoping for. Melees are a fixed amount of damage, if they occur near simultaneous, they should both do their set amount of damage, and if it's enough to kill, it does. This is why we love you guys at Bungie so much. You listen to your users, and if they have a legitimate complaint you work hard to try and resolve it. Thanks for being the best gaming studio out there.

Also, thanks for going in to so much detail about how the previous and existing systems work. Instead of just telling us it was more fair in H3 than it was in H2, you guys finally explained why.

Thank you, MuffinRage.

Anyway, I just wanted to say to those of you who believe we are only getting two maps in the next DLC... We are really getting three. Originally we were supposed to get O.K. Corral, Cottonball, and Purple Reign. However, Purple Reign was delayed because, according to Bungie, it wasn't going to be ready. But, in its place, we are instead getting Moonlight Sonata, a map that was announced last weekly update. The update said the map will be universally loved.

So, in the end, we are not getting just two maps. We are getting three. Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion.

I have another suggestion for the melee problem.

When the two players are within the 26.5 threshold in melee contest, instead of killing the two players, set the player’s body health to 14 points. When two players melee with swords, the swords “clash.” Why not allow for gun clashing in a normal melee? It would be entirely believable that the two players could “block” each other’s melee, therefore reducing the damage effect.

Why reduce the body health to 14?

Instead of letting the engine decide who dies, give the players another chance to make the kill. Let’s look at an AR vs. BR situation. The BR holder would have to land all three shots, or make a head shot to make the kill. If the BR holder lands only 2 bullets out of the 3 in a burst, it wouldn’t be enough to kill the other player. This would be fair since the BR can spit out three bullets much faster and more accurately than the AR. The AR holder would need to land 2 shots in order to finish the opponent. Two shots may be no big deal, but the AR fires much slower than the BR. If the BR holder misses one of the three bullets or is a little slow to make the first shot, the AR holder has plenty of time to make the kill. This would provide some balance between the two weapons during this sort of contest. This way the killer and the killed are ultimately determined by the players’ skill and reaction time.

In the event that the two players melee each other again after reducing each other’s health below 14, the health of the players would remain unchanged.

I just hope they remove the lunge of 15 feet with regular meele.... *Sighs*

And if they reduced that, you'd make it sound as if the BR would overwhelm the AR. The BR is a over powered weapon to begin with. It's a sniper rifle with reduced range. :/ Instead of having a BR and AR caculation of hit points or whatever, you need to realize that, four shot kills for BR's fall into Head Shots, and the AR is just a body shooter. So if the shield goes down and your both trying to kill each other and one guy meeles, it's usually from a moderate distance of five to ten feet, and then that ungodly lunge decides who wins. But the shield if non-exisistant would give the BR wielder far to much of a advantage, DING head shot. The Meele just needs to have that lunge factor removed. Thats the most agrivating thing on Halo 3 at the moment. Besides the annoying chirping 8 year olds.

  • 02.09.2008 8:37 AM PDT

so how is this 'commmunity' hopper gonna work? are all of you in redmond going to filter out the cream-of-the-forge and load them onto your servers? bi/weekly updates? 20 maps or endless randomness? regular gametypes or custom gametypes aswell? and my last question is... When will it be on-LIVE???

  • 02.09.2008 8:47 AM PDT

Wish Halo 3 PC would come out sooner... :(

Is the Jumping in campaign going to be fixed? (cause after pressing A, the player jumps a 0.5 second later)
Thanks & Good day
can't wait for AU1 :)

Damn you roor!

I was hoping they would go back to whoever hit the button first. It was fair for people who don't have walmart connections. Now we will still for certain be no-shields after every melee battle. Game is still catering to the slow reflexed and bad connection-having people, just not as much...

  • 02.09.2008 9:17 AM PDT

Not a bad solution.

Although I feel like I'm going to now see a bunch of people killing each other at once, as if there's some sort of killer fruit punch party I was't invited to.

The above poster that recommended a melle clash similar to the swords..... I gotta say that's not a bad idea. I'm not sure if it's look too goofy, or close down the pace of Halo 3, but I think I'd like it more simply because there would be more chance for skill and less chance of "hey you both die!"

this is all good stuff they're putting in the update, but when is it coming out?

I am waiting, and I know this might happen in the year 3000 for the time when Halo incorprates the Scarab, in a map.....I was sitting there daydreaming about how a scarab would be possible in Halo....As I was sitting there almost cutting my HAND off in work next to a saw..((I would have never played it withought my hand...)) So I figured it would be more like a giant Warthog, one person driving, and one person on a turrent, and one to man the main gun that shoots the laser. This would be fair as it would take three people from normal gameplay to get this massive beast of the gods moving... I started a drawing of the map, and just threw my pencil down knowing that Lag Would kill the beast. So instead of inventing a Super high Speed internet which consisted of two bubble yum, and a Waffel I Cried....lol
I also thought of a cool way that you could have two! medium sized maps fly around a large map. Like a Pillar of......ME!? and the covanant Space Craft that could be steered, and docked onto each other....Before all you fan start bashin my head against the cement Screaming "This was the biggest waste of time reading this!!" Know that I am wearing a .............helmet! <=== Don't ask, I have this problem in blurting out weird random things. Hey my wife thinks it is cute (( insert smiley face here))
Ohhh and the Melee thing I think that many people here underappreciate the time Bungie puts in too listen and add on to halo so that this game never ends it just never ends.......never........(( Ponders)) ..................I LOVE IT TO THE FACE!!!

A pretty nice read. I'm glad to see that the maps are progressing well- lookin' forward to seeing them. ;)

By the way, that Mister Chief is win (mostly due to the fact that this one, unlike last week's, did not make me ill).

Why was the system of harder punches based on movement not transfered from H2?

Remember...
Stop'd/Crouch'd Punch -> low
Running Punch -> med
High/Jumping Punch -> high

????
