Its a word which the system uses to cover up swear words or indecent language.

It's the Bungie.net profanity-filter dervice 3000. Commonly refered to as the "blam" filter.

Some words are allowed. And some people do stuff to words (Like add extra characters) to avoid the filter. But for specific words that are filtered, this list is long.

Well, to tell you the truth, -blam!- was actually the codename for Halo. =)

As for what words are censored, it's almost all words that can be offensive if used in a certain context. It's hard to actually make a list though, since there are quiet a few.

what the blam!

  • 02.08.2008 9:08 PM PDT

m is used to cover up profanity or profane language used by bungie community which should be reported and is bealived to be equivelent to a cuss word please do not repeat this because bingie does not like to see this and they have enough problems as it is.

What is -blam!-?

The real question is, what is it not?

  • 02.08.2008 10:30 PM PDT

Gotta love -blam!-
I can't remember where I read this, I thought it was the Bungie History page, bu I just checked and it's not. Apparently the origins of -blam!- are that in the old Chigago office Bungie would here cars screeching in the middle of the night. Every time they did, they hoped to here the sound of a crash, but never did. So they just improvised their own sound effects. And -blam!- was born.

That's correct. You may have seen this information on Bungiepedia, among other places.

I can only imagine what it would be like if cars colliding actually made that sound. It'd make it less tragic to say the least
