I've been doing basically the same thing as you in the last few months; I've been trying to find some nice surround - for Halo 2 of course, but for other things too

Anyway, right now, I've found two different sets that I've been seriously considering to get

This

And This

Probably gonna end up getting the first one, because it's 6.1 and the receiver is a lot nicer. Plus the sub's packed with 150 watts. And that extra rear speaker is always nice to think about; I should be getting all of this pretty soon

The difference between me and you though, is that my friend, who works at Circuit City, is giving me a 65 percent discount on what I buy :)

Onyoko is a MUCH better manufacturer. So get the first one. That'll tide you over until you're ready (financially) for seperates.

Exactly

And the receiver with the Onkyo is much better abled for upgrades compared to that slim-of-a-kind Sony has

Another thing that brought me to my decision is all of the customer reviews: they said it bumps!

I would never buy any home-theater-in-a-box if it had a dvd player as the receiver. Not a good sign (usually means they skimped on everything else). My HT is an $800 Harman/Kardon 7.1 receiver, a $200 pair of Bose towers, a center/rear surround combo for $350, and a Polk 180 watt sub ($500). My bank card dissaproved, but it's godly!

Aside from Bose witch the fine gentelman above me has id have to say piecing your own together is the best. It may be a little bit more costly, but believe me you'll hear the difference. Shiiiet they even have 7.1 surround sound for recievers, wich there is no real good use for in home recievers but i could be wrong. But anywho, Jusst get yerself a good reciever and some good speakers, Make sure your speakers dont have more watts than your reciever puts out per channel, Not that it will mess us but rather that its a waste and you payin for watts you dont even use. Best buy has some grea stuff. But you could always check out circuit city( i always find there selection limited and too pricy). Yeah ive got a sony reciever with Pro Logic 2 and dts, 6.1 surround and 150 watt per chanell output. 4 KLH 150 watt towers with 6 in subs, A sony 150 watt center speaker , Most important speaker because most of the action takes place where boys and girls? in front of you, Well at least with movies, as well all speach comes from here. And 100 watt powerd 8" subwoofer, so with the 150 from the reciver and the biultin amp its at about 250-300. that all folks!

P.S.: Use monster cables! They make the difference.

Yes, yes. To tmone you must listen! No decent HT is complete without a bunch of quality cables from Monster! *end annoying ad campaign*
Anyhoo, every single cable I have is monster. I have my Xbox, ps2,gc, tv and dvd player all hook up using monsters. They`re hella expensive, but extremely worth it.

yea 60 bucks xbox for monster cables and 20 more for the optical wire, But man with that opticle wire i can hear a grunt snoring before i can see him, And you know how you always hear people sayin "And its a gamplay enhancer too, You can actually hear where the shots are coming from, and act accordingly", Well that is sooo true, With the regular monster cables too, but the jump to optical, well its like the jump to hi definition from cable.
