When I load up Halo.exe the screen goes blank for a few moments, flashes and then crashes to desktop stating " A Problem occured Initializing Direct3D. Harware acceleration may be disabled, please run DXDIAG." Ive checked Dx Diag and everything is enabled. I've noted that also Game PC.com also have had the same problem; I also have the same graphics card. [http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=asusx800xtpci e&page=5]
I have not patched to version 1.06 of Halo; does the patch fix this?

My computer specs are as follows;
Motherboard: Intel D915GEVLK
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3ghz LG775
Ram: 1 GB DDR2 533 ram
Hard Drive: 120 SATA WD [Installed with Halo; except this is a secondary drive]
Audio: Onboard AC97 Audio
Video: ASUS AX800 XT - 2DT (PCIe)
OS: Windows XP Home with SP2.
Direct X: 9.0c

The game runs fine on the motherboard's intergrated graphics card. I also attempted to fix the problem by replacing Halo's old strings.dll with the later one from this forum.

The graphics card is the issue. If the dll file didn't work...well, I can't actually help you. Try reinstalling it.

Heyyo,

Yes, the main prob cause it wasn't patched is the game doesn't know what kindof videocard it is. So it tries to detect it and search in its videosettings file, screws up cause the card's newer than the game, fails, and blames DirectX, lol. What they did for the newer patches (I'm guessing) was any videocard that's too new for the game to know it tries to detect what it can do, or just add support for it in the video settings file.
