I think they should because if its against the forum rules then they should blam it out like any other word,

srry for the spelling, *Bungie

I agree. People use the word "noob" all the time to put down players who don't obsess over the game. "Oh I guess ur just a stoopid n00b..."

If it's against the rules, which it is, it should be "blammed". Think it might discourage "noob"sayers?

If it's against the rules they shouldn't be saying it in the first place.

Not the point. The point is that they DO, and blamming it would help alot. Why not?

Great Idea.

Honestly, I think a blacklist would be more effective.
Like a 3 day or something.

i dont think that would solve the problem, and thats a little harsh, the fact that they blam out all the other swear words and not this one which is against the rules doesnt make sence

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

There are simply too many variations on the word for a filter to be effective. Noob, n00b, newb, nub, |\|oob, ect, ect.

More importantly, filtering a word creates a problem with other, innocent words. Those words need to be added to an exception list (or something similar), and it's unlikely that all such words will be thought of in the begining. So it would cause problems, and they would continue until all the exceptions are found.

The filter doesn't even stop people from saying the words that are already filtered, it would be mostly ineffective agaist this one.

It's just not worth the work. If someone says noob, they're almost certainly being a jerk. Report them and move on.

blahoogana (bluh·hoo·gan·uh), noun - er, just call me Josh.

BP | B.me

It would be way to hard. They would have to -blam!- noob, n00b, nub, newbie, and every other "leet" combination people think of. Besides, I don't think it's that big of an issue.

I think that's a fantastic idea. Not allowing people to say it, but not censoring it is the equivalent of putting an antique chair in the middle of the room, open for sitting on, only to reprimand one for sitting on it, which I have first-hand experience in, for the record.

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

Heh. I thought it was already.

Because it can be used in a context that isn't offensive sometimes.

Though, it never is, and most curse words can be used in ways that aren't offensive as well.

I agree with aku. If it is a forum rule, and placed within the forum rules post, then users are on notice than it is prohibited. That's all that's required, just like the other forum rules (such as bumping) that are not prohibited automatically.

I wasn't aware that Bungie.net was now a democracy. Submit your own rules for voting now!

On the serious side. It would be too difficult to stop people saying the word, just like aku said. Far too many variations. Plus you can get around the -blam!- filter anyway.

If you see someone using the word, I tend to ignore them. If they are being offensive just report them.

No, sometimes the word "noob" can be used properly, if given the right context.

"Had a party full of noobs, and kept on taking Spartan Lazer, dying, then casually giving it to the enemy... over and over again" - OK

"You dam noob!" - Bad

It'd just be as silly as censoring the word "screw" or "ass" on BNet; they're both awesome words, if given the right context ^_^

And besides, it's like adding a big, red target for the Ban Hammer to those beligerent people here on the forums. Decent people will know how to use said word, jerks won't. They get the banhammer.

  • 02.10.2008 6:09 AM PDT

I think that "noob", "n00b" and all other variations should be censored, but we should keep "newbie". It's hardly offensive and Bungie themselves use it. It's just an easier way of referring to new players or members.
