I just got done installing a new DVD+RW drive on my grandpas computer so he could burn DVD's. Once I completed the installation I turned the computer on and it said that both my secondary disk drive 0 and secondary disk drive 1 were not found. Once I saw this I unhooked my computer again and began to reseat the two drives. I turned my computer back on and still the drives are not found. What do I need to do now? (I installed the DVD+RW on the bottom drive space if that means anything)

Note: The Disk Drive is a Sony DVD+RW 20X Internal Disk Drive and I installed it on a Dell Dimension 4550.

Thank You All For Any Help (sorry if this is in the wrong forum)

~James~

I hate you so much...

But not as much as I hate the internet.

do the drives connect directly to the mother board or are you slaving one to the other?

I believe I am going directly to the mother board. The big wide strap looking cable (sorry im new to the whole getting inside ur computer thing) comes from the mother board goes directly into the new Disk Drive and then another cable comes off of it and into the top drive.

So I guess one comes directly from the mother board then the other is an extention of that strap thing into the top drive.

I believe The Flood is the correct forum for this.

Ok so make sure i get this right. I have to plug in one of the cables differently so the computer knows its a slave? How do I go about selecting? Is it just a button or something?

the cables need to be right and the jumpers need to be in the right place. it's very easy once you know what you are doing.
