Thought I didn't have time to read the posts in-between, I can tell you now this man know's what he's talking about. I'm putting together a new system myself, actually - while a lot of it will be put together by the good people at Cyberpower Inc. (it's simply not any cheaper to do all the grunt work myself) there are a few key parts I'm installing myself. Anyways, I'm posting this because if you want a badass gaming PC that will run anything except Doom 3 (the tech for it's not even out yet!) maxed out this is the system for you. Anyways, here are the important components:
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 FX-53
Motherboard: Asus SK8V, VIA K8T800 Chipset
Video Card: ATi Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition
Memory: 4 512MB sticks of DDR400 RAM
HDD: 2 74GB 10,000RPM Western Digital Raptor Hard Drives
Power Supply: Super Alien 500 Watt
Monitor: NEC Multisync FE2111SB 22" Flat-screen Monitor
Optical Drive 1: 16x DVD-ROM & 52x32x52 CD-RW Combo Drive
Optical Drive 2: 12x DVD-R/RW & CD-RW Combo Drive
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS 7.1
Speakers: Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 Surround System
Case: X-SuperAlien Server 500W w/ Window & LCD Temperature Display
Oh yea, and there's going to be red neon. Lots and lots of red neon, to go with the black case. Also, for some reason red doesn't blind you in the dark, which is where I'll be playing.
One last thing; tomshardware.com, while it is a good site, is biased towards nVidia. Newegg.com and pricegrabber.com are great sites - I found the aforementioned video card for $330 less than most places were offering it.
Sir you (and cyberpowerinc.com) are putting togather a monster. The System Specifications that you have listed are amongst some of the best (and well priced) products availible to systems-builders. Thank you for posting in the thread. The two biggest battles in the computer hardware world today are obviously ATI versus nVIDIA , and Intel versus AMD. In the end it all depends on personal preference. Some Writers in certain web sites with ratings are biased to certain brands or Makers of hardware. Some are not biased at all. In my eyes the Geforce 6800 ultra (evga, or Leadtek) would have been the right card for that system. Im a freak for Shader Model 3.0 though. ATI let me down years ago when they made the Radeon jump and stopped supporting drivers well; I had a ATI Rage Fury Maxx (it was a neat card with 2 rage128 gpu's on it with 64mb of memory) , and when ATI came out with the "raedeon" they stopped writing drivers for this card, and this made me upset as it was my only card and I wanted to use it with XP, but you cant because ATI never wrote a Driver for it, My card was produced just before the raedeon line came out, but for some reason ATI thought it un-necessary to write drivers for it because they were to busy with thier new release... So now all I buy is nVIDIA. IT just seems to me that ATI makes gamer style cards as a second thought to thier Workstation line of cards. As nVIDIA treats both the gamer and the designer/workstation cards as separate but equal when it comes to support and quality. Thusly...YES I am biased to the nVIDIA based GPU cards. But come on man... I know that you have seem a bunch of reviews and they all show that nVIDIA and ATI are basically neck and neck, and the same goes with AMD and Intel. It is all about preference. Good Job on building (err having built) a great system. Just wondering.. How much did that all cost??
