Just out of curiosity, why are there so many locked threads?

  • 02.11.2008 12:37 PM PDT

Because people don't know what goes where and they don't read the rules. If you mean in The Underground, you should post in the other currently active thread about that forum. Heck, even this thread will probably be locked soon.

I was actually wondering that myself. I didn't think I broke any rules when creating my post. Though I'm currently looking for the forum rules to double check.

I believe you got burned on the "no threads about an individual user" rule. But it may have been something else.

Edit: Also, I voted for you.

If that's the case, how about a post from the moderator on what the dealie is when the thread is locked? Or at the very least a link to the sticky on forum rules (assuming there is one... I haven't looked around yet)?

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Because, there are so many repeat, wrongly placed, spam, etc threads. They deserve locking, if it makes the front page look bad, oh well. That is the price of the communities inability to take two seconds to post in the correct spot.

Your post was technically spam as it was posted in the wrong forum. The Community Forum (change it back to "The Septagon") isn't your political soapbox. It would have been better placed in the Classifieds, or even the Flood.

A lot of mods used to do that frequently (and most of them still do), however when you lock twenty odd topics it's easier to just press the lock button. Furthermore, they shouldn't have to tell everyone who posts and off-topic thread that they locked it because it is off topic. We as the community should know. A lot of them are locked for seemingly obvious reasons.

I would like to add on to this if you don't mind Truth.

I would just like to add that a link to the rules would be unnecessary for a moderator; for a few reasons. One, you agreed to read the rules when you first Signed up on Bungie.Net; two, the rules are always in plain sight, see the right hand side of the screen when at the top of the page; and three, because they aren't your babysitter. My apologies if I am being a bit blunt or harsh, but ignorance the the rules is no excuse. Not to say that you are being ignorant; it's just an assumption since the rules are now pretty much in your face the entire time.

Also, I would like to add, that if you are ever to get confused as to what forum to post what in I would suggest taking a look at this.

Looks like I got a PM and didn't realize it. Additionally I have read the rules. They were very long and very detailed which is awesome, unfortunately though I couldn't commit the whole thing to memory. Lastly, I looked to the right before posting and didn't see the rules. Are they called something other than 'Forum Rules/Guidelines'?

It varies from forum to forum. The link I provided above, with the guide on what forum to post what in, has a link to the rules in each forum below each header. The basic rules are pretty much common sense though, and can be seen here.

I miss the old "locked thread" symbol.
